I always felt the Y-Wing's were the best ships. At least design wise

Slow and durable. They get the job done. But if they can handle enough to get it done.

That's the stuff, right there. Really like the designs, great job. You did the best ship some justice. And for the record, they're not THAT slow. And they can handle anything. Anything.

Actually there's plenty of starships that it's faster than. They're faster than a Firespray, and that was a ship designed to pursue other ships.

Well I would think that in the rebel armada, its considered the slowest. That and from all the games I played. So that may have influenced me to look at it like that.

It's plenty fast in all the Battlefront games its in and the Rogue Squadron games, except for the first one. Now you're making me want to fly one with my own paintjob on it. I especially like the green one, would love to take it for a spin.

So do you have a name for this trio yet? Squadron name? Are they with a Rebel cell or are they their own group?

I think they're pretty cool. More than a match for any TIEs they come across.

Oh, that's easy. Y-Wings have the best cannon placement of any ship in Star Wars. With the guns mounted on the nose, they're more accurate and precise over longer distances than those of their counterparts. The TIEs with their chin-mounted guns and the X-Wings with the wing-mounted cannons can't hit things as reliably over longer distances. The Y-Wing is essentially a sniper in space. You see this in modern jet aviation today- nose-mounted guns are far better. The A-10, which was the inspiration for the BTL-A4 Y-Wing in many ways, has its main gun in the same place and has been one of the most effective attack platforms for decades.

In the Lore, they keep trying to replace the Y-Wing but they never really do. It got a bad reputation because of writers at the time like Michael A. Stackpole, who was more of a self-insert writer than most want to realize. He's a good self-insert writer, but Corran Horn is pretty much him. The Y-Wing is just the best starfighter in Star Wars because of its design. That's why it remains a favorite. It was one of the first and is still pretty much the best. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

So standard TIE Fighters are pretty much giant targets in space. Their huge wings and spherical cockpits make it easy to target and blast. And the Y-Wings accuracy is unparalleled. In a head-to-head match, TIE Fighters don't stand a chance, of course that's true in every engagement they don't have a vast numerical advantage. Also, the TIE cockpit only allows the pilot to see forward, a very bad design flaw.

But yeah, the TIEs don't stand a chance. Not much does against a Y-Wing with a decent pilot.

Too bad by the sequel trilogy they seem to be extinct actually and phased out by that point

Their biggest mistake and one many people have pointed out. Those new bombers are even worse than K-Wings. There's some cool concept art of Post-Endor Y-Wings, though. Pretty cool stuff.

Only reason is that the resistance was small and somehow was unprepared for ywings. Though at the same time, a hulking bomber, lead alone 5 of them was pretty out there. Maybe ywings are collectors worthy next to the t65

That's actually a pretty good theory. Someone bought them all up or they were quickly sold off. The Rebels did have a lot of them, so if they were strapped for cash, might have sold the Y-Wings so planets could use them as defense, especially the more remote ones.

Just when you thought getting striped after the clone wars, and tried to be scrapped. But ultimately I guess scrapped after the GCW.
