More synth rock for ya. This one's in the vein of "Rushin," that little number I put up a while ago. It utilizes the same patch, changed around a bit, tweaked so it's different. This was actually a riff I came up with prior to Rushin'. I came up with both in the same afternoon of jammin around on the keyboard, but came up with more pieces for Rushin, so I ran with that, leaving this little guy to be untouched for months.
I couldn't come up with anything that went along with the original riff I had for this, which switches in and out of 5/4 time, but I finally managed to figure something out. The intro is also very much like Rushin', in that it starts out with the synth.
I didn't get to do a lot with this, as I really started working on it about a day or two before I left for Scotland, so everything is all over the place as far as how I want the tonal qualities to be. The synth has a little too much phase on it, you can hear it moving around too much.
The guitar I'm rather impressed with, even if it does stop after the solo. It's all one complete take. It stops after the solo, cause that's as far as the song was at that point. I added on the other verse/chorus and all that after. It's for the most part how it'll be in the final product, as far as performance. There are a few parts where I have to re-record little snippits to fix some flubs.
The solo was all just pulled out of my ass on this take. I had played it a bunch of times not recording any of the practices, this was the only recorded take I did, and the solo is like the rest of the performance, about 80-90% there. I like the tone I've got coming from the amp.
Also, the bridge into the solo, is if I do say so myself, rather epic sounding. My buddy Chris was like, "damn dude, that's like triumphant sounding." I would have to agree, I quite like it.
I plan on finishing this when I get back, maybe some lyrics. I hope that the guitar going on isn't too busy to try and lay something vocally overtop.
As you could probably tell, it's very Rush inspired. I absolutely love their early to late 80s albums, Signals, Power Windows, Permanent Waves, and of course, Moving Pictures, but that's like law if you're Canadian. Also, Grace Under Pressure, love that album. I think this most fits in with Signals or Power Windows as far as the synthiness goes and guitar. I guess I was going for that Alex Lifeson style and tone. Not quite there with the tone, but I don't wanna be a direct copy of it. It's tinged with it, so that's what I'm happy about.
I know I came up with a bass line to this before I left, I just don't know if I recorded it or not. If not, I'll have totally forgotten it by now, maybe I did but just didn't render the song with it cause it was real sloppy or something, I dunno, I'll find out when I get home.
I've got a few others I uploaded before as part of samplers, that I've thought of uploading the entire song as a WIP, perhaps to my scraps, anyone wanna hear'em?
