I figured I should break up the song drought. I know I'm on vacation n all, but I did bring some stuff to upload every once in a while, so now's as good a time as any.
This one is an old one, like late 2006. This was the first complete song I created while going to school at Stylus for Audio Engineering. Everything is a synth in Cubase and I had Reason ReWired for the drums, the only time I've really used ReWire.
I had so much fun playing the organ, I would often in the time between classes, or even during, I'd mute the audio rendering of the organ, load the patch and play along. It's more or less one take when I recorded the midi info for the organ, it's been too long, I can't remember. I know that I had to offset them a bit, just before the beat, cause the attack on the B4 was being fussy.
I unfortunately lost the project file for this, which contained the patch and all my hard work programming the drums, bass and vocal synth. I copied all my files from Studios A & B, but neglected to go into the Midi Lab and grab my stuff. A month later, it had all been deleted, was pretty choked. I was just gonna submit the original copy I had, which is the only copy I have, but the bass was way off, so I tweaked it a bit in Wavelab to even it out a bit. This was also before we learned about proper panning and mixing, so everything's a bit off, but it's kinda like the missing link between my really old stuff and my current post-school stuff.
I've tried to re-create this song forever. I've gotten the drums programmed no problem, with lovely Addictive Drums this time around, but I just can't get the organ to sound the same. I've been thinking about it and analyzing it while I've been on the road, and I think I might know a way to get it. I think what I might have done, was render it to a mono track, because it kept panning side to side in stereo and it was distracting, and then added a rotary to the track afterwards, not sure though.
Was project name: Deep Purple, for obvious reasons, but the name above is what it's called now and goes with partial lyrics I wrote for it afterwards. It more or less follows the synth vocal line, the rhythm, timing and meoldy are like 80% the same. I used a cool reversed build up on the vocal synth too. I had to ask my teacher how to do it. It pretty much involved reversing the clip, putting a bunch of reverb on it, and then flipping it back around, so the reverb is then in reverse, building up to the note.
Also, since this was just synths in Cubase, I never recorded any guitar for it. I do have a riff that kinda goes with it, that I was gonna lay down overtop this one, but I figured I may as well save it for when I can redo it properly. Anyone who wants to take a stab at jammin out a solo on this is welcome to do so, with proper credit, but y'all know that. I'd actually be very excited to hear what people come up with.
If the internet here behaves, I'll have another one that I was working on just before I left home up after this one.
