Throttle and choke are such violent sounding words. But the interior of this 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe is actually very relaxing. One of the things that caught my eye inside this car was the vertically-mounted radio hiding there just behind the steering wheel.

That's a radio? Good grief! Well, I suppose that if Mini could turn the direction of the engine, Plymouth could do the same with the radio. ^__^

It was in the design of the original Morris Mini-Minor that the style of a transversely-mounted engine first became popular, although other manufacturers had done it first. ^__^

Ah. I thought you meant the current "Mini" was somehow non-standard. I couldn't recall hearing that. Thanks for explaining!

I've never driven a manual transmission with the shift lever on the steering column. I don't suppose it's much different from one on the floor, but it just seems odd to me.

It's wonderfully fun! Nice, long, fluid throw. Even better if it has electric overdrive with a toggle switch on the end of the shifter ;)

Like the other shift styles, e.g. Citroens dash change, they could get used to. The only downside was often the more complex linkages wore out and got sloppy. The column shift automatic is still seen in a few cars today.

Never really thought about those words in that way :) but then I'm the guy who likes to go into the auto store and loudly proclaim:

*chuckles... back then it was a real trick to drive... I tried to teach my sister how to drive standard (1970 Maverick three on the column) and that did not work well at all.
