After World War Two (1939-1947 no that's not a mistake) the newly formed United Nations got under way in constructing the post-war world. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics Wanted both Germany and Japan to pay harshly for their actions and wanted to administer over the countries. The UN didn't allow this, but as a compromise allowed the USSR to absorb the territory it had gained from chasing back the Germans and Japanese. This included the land of all these nations...

After the fall of the USSR, the land under remained part of the new Russian Federation under Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin. On the night of 31 December, 1999 Boris Yeltsin resigned as president of the Russian Federation, moving then Prime Minister Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to acting president. After the elections on 26th March, 2000 which Putin won, he transformed the Russian Federation back into a communist nation under the name of the New Communist State of Russia.

After the Japanese invasion of the Republic of China (not the People's Republic of China) the Japanese moved throughout the country and claimed the entire nation soon after. After the war, China claimed the land of Mongolia and Bhutan shortly before the resurrection of the Chinese Civil War which the nationalists won. However the Nationalists were unable to escape to Taiwan.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea invaded it's southern neighbor and quickly took control of the peninsula as the US failed to intervene as WWII had just ended and deemed Korea as not important enough.
The State of Israel decided that if t were to be left alone by it's surrounding neighbors it needed to stand and hold its ground, so after the 6-Day War in 1967 the land they had gained in the Sinai Peninsula, Western banks, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights, and entirety of Jordan would stay as part of Israel.
After the invasion of the Bay of Pigs in western Cuba, the nation was then turned into a United States territory and during the invasion launch sites and ICBM's were found all over the island and created tensions to flair between the USA and USSR creating (albeit different) Cuban Missile Crisis. The Cuba, along with Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Marianas, and Washington D.C. gained Statehood as part of the Voting Rights Act of 1964. (See it's not all bad, just mostly)
During the surrender terms and negotiations of the Third Reich after WWII, Germany had negotiated successfully to be allowed to keep both the Kingdom of Denmark and the Republic of Austria.
During the "Football War" (yes this is a thing, I highly suggest you google it because the whole thing is almost hysterically childish) the Republic of El Salvador was able to defeat the Republic of Honduras and claimed its territory.
