It's been a long time coming, but I finally finished this piece that I began back in 2012. I created the dragon lineart for a contest in a DeviantArt club, but it took me a very long time to figure out how I wanted to format the picture with the 3-D inclusions. I finally decided to start by converting the book cover to leather - yes, actual leather from an old jacket. The rest of the elements dropped into place in my head after that. :D
There are a lot of materials involved with this piece - all kinds of different things I have hiding in the nooks and crannies of my studio:
The dragon is ink, watercolor, and Prismacolor pencil, with some gel pen accents.
The book is leather with pocketwatch bits and old metal jewelry. I added a round jasper cabochon as well.
The border is scrapbook paper with swirly embellishments, rhinestones, metal, and actual stones. The stones include black-dyed agate, aventurine (green), goldstone (reddish), and agate (yellowish). In the upper right corner is a large square jasper, and to its left is a fuze-glass bauble.
