Rhy landed in the woods. He was tired. He flew quite hard today, wanting to get rid of the stress and anger. He shifted back into human and started towards the back entrance of Tuxion. He discovered it while listening to his colleges talk, and this was the first time he was trying to use it. It was told that it was guarded by a troll that showed no mercy, but he wasn’t afraid. He had already dealt with a lot of trolls already. It might have been hard for humans to win against it, but he was convinced that it won’t be a problem for him. He was more afraid of being caught walking around after curfew anyways. As he walked towards the small path, he saw a figure standing. ‘That must be the troll.’ He thought, and continued to walk towards it.
Soon he was at where he thought the back entrance was. The steel gates were rusted and covered in vines. If he didn’t notice the troll, he would’ve thought it as just another wall of Tuxion’s grounds. He approached the gates, and pushed and pulled to see if they would open. Of course they wouldn’t. So he changed one of his finger into claws and picked the lock to open it. He was sure that there would be a spell to open it, but as he hadn’t learnt it yet, picking the lock would do. He was used to doing this kind of thing anyways back at home when he was raiding stuff. The lock clicked and unlocked, and he pushed it again to see if that did the trick. It did, but there was a small problem. The doors were so rusted, that it made a screeching noise with even the smallest movement. Plus, the screeching got the attention of the troll as well. It turned it’s head and looked for the source. Rhy quickly hid behind the wall, and waited until he heard the troll come towards him. Once he heard the troll come near the gates, he jumped over the wall and climbed on top of the troll. The troll growled and jumped in surprise, and Rhy held on, as the troll was the only barrier between him and not getting caught. He hit the troll in the neck quite hard, and the troll slumped to the ground with a thump. ‘I’d better move it so no one will notice…’ Rhy thought as he grabbed the troll’s shoulder and started to move it. ‘Plus, why didn’t I just think of jumping over the wall?’
Satisfied with his work, Rhy walked away from the bushes that was hiding the troll, and towards the back door. He was just about to reach the stairs leading to the door when someone burst open the door and rushed out. He had just enough time to run and hide into the bushes. At first he thought it was only professor Yudia who rushed out, but a closer look told him that there were actually 3 professors. Headmaster Yudia, Professor Ravison, his master, and Professor Obiapo. They all had their hands on their wands and was looking around, as if looking for something. It was as if someone had sounded the alarm. He looked at the slightly opened door. If he could silently make it into the building, maybe he won’t get caught.
Rhy moved fast, but quietly. The professors would for sure notice the troll missing, and then would question who or what did it. And if he was caught on the site, he was sure to be seen guilty. And he didn’t want that. He climbed up the stairs, and silently slipped into the building. He was quite sure that no one noticed him. He immediately tried to use one of the magical cylinders, but for some reason, they were all powered off. Maybe someone had indeed ticked off the alarm. The only option left for him was the stairs. He almost literally flew up the stairs and reached the door into Xerveonex. He tried the door, but the door was locked. And he could now hear the professors walking up the stairs. He had no time to pick the lock. His last option was to climb down into his room using his opened window. Rhy rushed up the stairs once again, heading for the top of the building. This time he wasn’t so quiet, and the professors beneath him heard him running up the stairs. Professor Yudia shouted, and they started to fire spells at him. He didn’t know what spell they were firing, but it for some reason didn’t affect him. Besides the sting where the spell hit him, that is.
He finally reached the top of the building and almost crashed into the door. Opening it as fast as he could, he ran towards the top of his dormitory building and started to climb down. By the time the professors reached the roof, he was already in his room. ‘Whoever that was, he’s already gone.’ He heard professor Yudia said. ‘Dang it!’ ‘Hopefully the intruder won’t still be in school. That could be a threat to both students and us.’ He heard professor Ravison say. ‘Put the school on lockdown.’ Professor Yudia said. ‘It’s going to stay like that until we find the intruder or we’re sure that he’s gone. If he could knock down that troll, and pick the lock and get away from us, he will be very dangerous.’ ‘Yes, sir.’ He heard the other two professors say. Then they walked back away. Hearing the footsteps get further, he closed his window.
Soon, he heard commotion in the master room. Professor Ravison was now calling to the students. Rhy walked to the door and went to the master room. ‘Everyone listen!’ his master professor said. His colleges either didn’t hear him over the noise or ignored him as the commotion continued. Professor Ravison asked his colleges to be quiet again, but after acknowledging him nicely asking had no effect, he just flicked his wand and suddenly the room was silent. ‘Why is no one talking?’ Rhy asked, silently. But as the room was silent, everyone heard him. Professor Ravison looked shocked for some reason. Then he returned his attention back to the crowd. ‘Students, there was an intruder in the building. The school’s on lockdown. It will be until we get hold of the intruder or we’re sure he or she is gone. Everything that comes through this school’s going to be inspected by magic, including your personal mails or posts. And you are to move in groups. No one wanders around alone. You will each receive a small notepad tomorrow. It’ll tell you the current situation as well as other important notices. You are to check it every other hour. We were supposed to give these out after some more testing, but as the situation goes, your well being is more important. Everyone got it? Headmaster Yudia will answer your questions tomorrow. Now, all, to bed! And Mr.Quan, a word please.’
Rhy followed his master professor while the others headed back to their room. As always, some were looking at him and whispering among themselves. He just ignored him and followed professor Ravison out to the hallway and up the stairs. There was only silence between them. Soon they arrived at Professor Ravison’s study, and his master professor motioned him to sit down. Rhy sat down, and waited for his professor to say something. However, his professor didn’t say anything. He just looked thoughtful. ‘I didn’t do anything wrong, did I?’ he finally asked his professor. ‘No, no. At least not for now.’ ‘Can I ask a question?’ ‘Go for it.’ ‘Why wasn’t anyone able to speak suddenly back there? Magic?’ Rhy asked. ‘Yes. I silenced them.’ ‘Then why was I able to speak?’ Rhy questioned again. ‘That’s what I want to know.’ Professor Ravison said, looking at Rhy thoughtfully. ‘There is an explanation, but… no, no. It’s unlikely.’ ‘What is it?’ Rhy asked. He hoped that it won’t reveal himself, and hoped that it was because of some other cause.
After much thinking and silence, Professor Ravison finally got up and started looking for something in his desk with a thoughtful expression, which also contained a little bit of doubt. ‘I’m pretty sure I put it somewhere around here… Here it is! Take this.’ He put some kind of bottled liquid on the desk. He sat back into his chair and grabbed a very small flask from the corner of his desk. ‘Pass me the Kasl, please?’ His professor asked him. ‘Is this called Kasl?’ Rhy asked as he passed the liquid to his professor. ‘Yes. And it measures one’s magical strength. It’s also extremely hard to brew or get, so it is advised that you use it in as small amounts as possible. There. That’ll do.’ Professor Ravison said as he poured it about half of the small flask. ‘Now, will you give me a drop of blood? Here. Use this.’ He said, as he handed over a small needle. ‘Why my blood?’ Rhy asked. ‘Can’t it be something else? Like… my hair?’ ‘Yes, we could, but for the best and exact result, blood is best. You don’t mind, do you?’ ‘Umm… no.’ Rhy answered. He pierced his finger, just enough to draw a few drops of blood. Professor Ravison had already put a small glass plate in front of him, so he dropped the blood on there. ‘Great! Now we put your blood in this liquid… and wait. Meanwhile, let me heal your finger.’ He reached for his fingers, but when Rhy opened his hand, the finger was already healed. ‘That’s strange… I guess you have pretty strong magic, after all.’ Professor Ravison said. Then he looked at the small amount of Kasl. ‘It’s starting. Look. It’ll boil hard if the magic is strong.’ The liquid started to boil, then it started to bubble. Then it suddenly changed colors. It changed from mystic red to blue. Rhy looked at his professor, expecting some kind of explanation, but he looked lost as well. ‘No. No way. It can’t be. No.’ Then suddenly, as if the flask couldn’t handle the heat, it cracked and exploded. And even before the now-blue Kasl touched anything, it evaporated. Surprised, Rhy looked at the broken flask, then at his professor. His professor looked stunned as well. ‘Stay there.’ His professor ordered him, and almost ran over to the shelves of books in a corner. He pulled out multiple books, each time saying ‘no’ as he picked the wrong one. He threw the wrong books onto the chair next to the shelf, and soon the books were falling on the ground. Finally, he pulled out an ancient looking scroll from the top of the bookshelf. He unscrolled it and read it carefully, while walking back to his chair. He finally set the scroll aside and looked at Rhy carefully. Then he opened his mouth.
