True. But, knowing the history of religious groups, does it not sound like an unpleasantly plausible possibility? Just look at the lengths they go to in order to keep homosexuals from legal equality and protection - they'd go crazy over actual non-humans. There'd be protests. There'd be angry columns claiming that shifters are trying to bite children to turn them (Regardless of how ineffective such an attempt may be). Every time a shifter commits any crime it'd be plastered all over the Christian papers. "WERE-EAGLE VIOLENTLY ASSAULTS MOTHER OF TWO," in much they same way they spend special attention reporting crimes committed by illegal immigrants in the real world.

This more useful. Shifters, as social outsiders, I imagine many would feel a need to prove themselves - they'd naturally look for ways they could use their abilities to show the world they are not to be feared. Bird of prey shifter? Search and rescue. Probably still sit on a helicopter as it could fly faster, but those eyes could search a much wider area than human.

or as a police bird, taking down drones and such, or for the military as recon and infiltration and again, taking down drones.

Wildtouched can reproduce with humans, other Wildtouched, and animals, yes, with the result dependent on what the exact combination is.

Given the general attitude of society towards anything remotely out of the ordinary regarding sex, I'd expect all major governments to very rapidly ensure even trying to reproduce with ferals is not only illegal, but the level of illegal which gets someone decades in prison and a lifetime on whatever their national version of the sex offender register is.

I'd also expect a few porn sites to get a 'wildtouched fetish' section where you can see people Do It in transition form... the number of fetishists would likely exceed the number of actual wildtouched.
