Only people who genuinely and deeply care about what they make go to such lengths. Anybody else would have just at most dropped this notice and changed the character henceforth, which is what I thought this meant at first, but here you are going above and beyond.
It's truly commendable and I think it's that kind of commitment really makes someone a role model. People look up to that kind of dedication, be proud of yourself. And if nothing else, I'm certainly proud of you and I respect you even more than I already did before.

Also, when I first looked at Tessa in this message, I admittedly didn't notice anything different other than she now had more head fluff and that the little mark under her eyes was gone. Now that I've really seen what she looks lime, I don't mind if she looks that way. It's a good look on her.

I did originally think about that but recasting would have been hell, because the linearts would be totally different and may obscure things in comic panels that needed to be seen so my only real option was a re-colour with subtle changes to style so not to impact the frames too badly.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just keep using their character, though? Or was it a worry about people feeling like Tecca was getting extra page time without having to pay?

I also wonder why you didn't just have a page of Tecca giving an in-story reason for leaving but introducing his "Good friend, Poochy--err, Tessa" to fill that role. I imagine you have your reasons, though.

It wasn't about paying money it was respecting that person's character wishes. Yes I could have continued using her but as she specifically requested me to remove her character it would have been A pretty scummy thing to keep doing.

I also didn't want to write Teca out of the story because of the history she has built up with star and who she actually is in the comic plays a significant role later down the line.

yes other than the speshul shine page (I dont have the psd so recolouring that one would be a pain) but other than that one if anyone notices wrong bits feel free to point them out (people have already been helpfully doing that as i missed a couple but generally i think ive caught most of them

Am I the only one who wants her to do simple characters like this in the future? Maybe for diaper prints or simple and cheap art so people who want art but don't want to spend a lot can get some, and it doesn't take Star a few hours to draw someone.
Also I love how even in her simple form Star still has the biggest baby diapers possible, she is soooooooooooo cute!!!

I had to redo a sizeable chunk of one of my comics due to the same king of thing. Mainly the owner of the cameo sold the character and so the character no longer had the relationship with the others that I needed. T_T

Also, I got a look at Tessa, and the change isn’t so bad. :) Not that there was anything wrong with Teca, I was just worried that it might take me a while to get used to the change. I tend to have a hard time adjusting to unexpected change because of my form of autism, but to be honest, this one isn’t hard to adjust to at all. :)

This might be the most ADORABLE explanation EVER. I love it, hehe. Though I'll miss Teca I understand, it's why I'm hesitant to use other people's characters w/o a written or preplanned agreement, but even so I've broken my own rule a few times. That being said, I understand and was pretty impressed with the way the change was so seamlessly slipped in, it looks pretty good. ;)

Teca will be missed, but this little comic was a great way to explain everything to the readers. Most productions don’t get so creative when a character is recast, so we greatly appreciate the info. :)

Just out of curiosity, will you be going back and retroactively replacing Teca with Tessa in the old art and future printings of the trade, or will there be an added bit to explain the replacement? Possibly involving Teca being carried off by space penguins to work in their cheese mines on Pluto?

Well I believe you say it yourself the characters in your comic are more like actors playing a role, they do not reflect what the person who own the fursona may actually be like or even want their fursona to be. If still going on with that idea we could simply say Teca simply have to retire due to whatever reason and a new actor have to be brought in to play the role. The fact you went back and "redid the reruns" in a sense to prevent confusion is really going beyond what is ever expected out of you. Mad respect for that.

By doing this it brings up the question what if one of the main characters would want to drop out of the story. Would you do the same thing for them , and if you do that to much your left with the question of a boat with all its parts replaced, and you have to ask does this make it the same boat.

well teca was a main character she was in over 50 pages of the comic and her now replacement will be in many more. Ultimately I have a little waiver form I get people to sign giving me permission to use their character (they retain ownership) that form technically is written in proper legal speak signed with their real name. If I wanted to I could have just continued to use tecas character as she had signed that form but realistically im not gonna do that cause its just kinda mean right?

So yes if say manda or lure pulled out I would do the same for them too Though judging with how long removing teca took me I would be asking for financial recompensation for the time its taking so loss of earnings because i could have been doing commissions and new comic pages rather than spending the best part of three days fixing all of the tecas out of the current shine back catalogue

Reading through all this, I am very impressed at how much you respect the character of the other fusonae. Do most artists do this? It seems furries have some creative control over how they're portrayed even though it isn't "really" them.
