These are a few study drawings/ sketches I've done for
abakan commission of the Kurt Tank's famous Butcher Bird! In particular I wanted to get some three quarter view drawings done so I could become familiar with how the perspective and various angles would work on this plane.
One thing ran into trouble with while doing
dustykat commission http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2554532/ was that I had done numerous sketches and had studied the photos of both the locale and his bike and gear, but I had not done any finished sketches of the complete rider and bike package from that exact angle. Therefore when I started on the finally piece I had to do more fudging and correcting of the final image than I would have preferred! With that experience still fresh in my memories I wanted to avoid that with this piece. In particular I wanted a better understanding of how the lower wing panels and landing gear interacted with each other.

I'm sittin' at Reno/Stead airfield right this moment, where there are not one but TWO P-40s that have qualified and are sitting in the pits right now. One with the shark face, the other with a parrot head. Never seen them before, but without Mike Brown and his three planes, it's not too surprising to see new blood in the Unlimiteds.
Well, the P47 was really a stopgap design created to fill a need for bomber escort. They just took the biggest radial engine they could produce in mass quantities fast and slapped an airframe on it that worked. Looks were not discussed, just getting something in the air that could carry a ton of firepower and take a lot of damage. It's not a truck, it's a tank with wings.
