I brought the Big Red Dragon with me to the Skiltaire, hoping to run into
so I could deliver his long-awaited commission. The big guy was, well, so BIG, that I needed to find a place to put him where he wouldn't be in the way while I wandered the house and socialized. :) Their plushie hoard seemed like a perfect place to put a large, dozy dragon. And I even found him a little wee blue friend to snuggle with during his "nap".

The wee blue dragon belongs to whoever lives in the Skiltaire House. I'd never seen it before, but it was too cute not to tuck in with Red while he dozed.
Thanks for liking my big red buddy! He was a bit of a sweat to design- there's over a hundred individual pieces in the pattern. O___O

I like doing it, actually. Designing things like this is actually pretty fun. I'm still fine-tuning my patterns for these kinds of things, but I'm getting close to a final pattern I can re-use over and over, with tweaks and changes for individual characters. Now, if I can just get a hold of three-inch pile for some of the hairier fellows... This guy was supposed to have a mane of black hair, and all I had for that was ordinary one-inch faux fur...
I've so far seen three, and one was a Disney reproduction of the Evil Queen from Sleeping Beauty, another was my purple Kozy, and the third was a red... thing who's designer should have been shot.
This fellow is very soft, cuddly and filled with poly-fill. He's essentially a big pillow. I'll be here whenever you want me to make one. I even have fabric that would suit a big silver draggie. Can't do it for free, unfortunately- these critters take a long time to build.

*nodnods* Such has been my experience. Blows not finding work. What's more annoying (and not always just for me) is the problem I have getting myself moving to actually DO something like looking for work. :-P Anyway, I'm legal to work in the States, now, so the job-hunt will be starting soon. It might be easier, now that the college-and-University students are going back to school.
Nah, doesn't sound "sad" at all, especially if you don't live anywhere near the place. A lot of folks never heard of it unless they live in the community nearby- it's called the Prancing Skiltaire, it's a furry household in Garden Grove, California that's been around since the beginnings of the Fandom (mid-to-late '80's), and they've been having once-monthly fur-meets for about the last ten years. It's like a mini-convention: people bring food, drinkables (non-alcoholic) and movies, hang out with each other, socialize, come in-suit, play games, and sometimes they have a DJ come and play music in the back yard. Pretty awesome.
Awww...That sounds awesome! I really need to come to California... It sounds so awesome, and a plus is that I'm a warm weather person! I hate it here in Missouri, haha. If I'm ever in California at that time, I would definitely have to come! But I'm sure it's invite only, since it's at someone's house, right? Hmm... Oh, well, I'm sure I could get an invite if I worked hard enough and made friends with the right people, haha!
That's the part I'm the most shy about, actually. I don't really like touching very many people- any physical contact beyond the absolute minimum can make me really nervous. Silly, I know, especially considering that I like giving and receiving hugs. *scritches her noggin over that one* I just have to get used to the idea all over again with every new person.
I agree about the room for improvement, it's always there and if you go for it (like you do) then it only gets better.
I got connected with the furry group here in the Peg' thanks to
Furgeta and I've put together a chat channel for us. Between him and me we've got a consistent gathering place. Now there are about 12 of us furrs that hang regular and another dozen that are semi regular migratory.
Last furry game day turned into a party because there were 22 people in his house over two floors. It was great! Now we are setting meetings up twice a month and random art-attacks whenever we can get a few of us together.

??? Are you allergic to polyesters or spandex? The interfacing would go on the inside, and the two layers sewn in as one layer so the stretchy fabric actually doesn't stretch. That was the problem I had with this stuff- it stretched a bit our of shape and was far too large. But he's comfy and squishy. Heh.
Bummer. Well, interfacing wouldn't make a difference in the case of a plushie- it would be on the inside to help it keep it's shape. Unless you were wearing the dragon, somehow.... Heh. I'm not overly fond of polyester for clothing, anyway- it doesn't breath very well, holds odours too well, and when the pits still reek even after washing, I refuse to wear it anymore. I prefer cotton, rayon, silk and linen- I don't have those problems with those fabrics. Unfortunately, they don't LAST as long as polyester does, dammit.
Well, this one accidentally came out freakin' MASSIVE, and Dranslin is only paying $140 for it because that's the price we'd agreed on. But I think a plush that's made this big on purpose would have to be at least $250, just because of the amount of work it takes to make him. Smaller plushes, two feet high, instead of eight feet like this monster, would be the original $140. Ones about a foot high would be about $60. Smaller ones would be harder for me to make, so I don't think I can say their price would be less, mostly because I'd probably have to sew a lot of the finicky parts by hand.
Also, depending on how detailed the character is, it might be a little more, or even a bit less, if it's a very simple one. Basically, the prices are negotiable, but I can't go too low, or my time (roughly 70-90 hours) won't be paid for.
I do take payments in chunks, so someone can still get their personal plush without having to break the bank. A lot of people do it the same way with getting a fursuit- they simply make several payments so they can pay for their costume on a schedule they can afford.
Hope I haven't scared you off! O____o

8 feet long, nose to tail. Yeah, you could do $10-$20 a week, but I'd suggest, if you can, to save up those $20's and do it in slightly bigger batches (say, $40 every two weeks). That way, I can buy the materials to make the plush. First payment usually goes for supplies. Is there a good ref of Kilroy somewhere? And, if you do decide to get me to make one, were there any special details you might want?
