Ladybird beetle in the pebbles and shells of the beach. yes there are that many shells on that beach. almost all are zebra muscles (once hated beyond belief until they cleaned Lake Eire and became food for re-emerging native fish and other water inhabitants.) and they are sharp little things too. unlike the pebbles. anyway this here ladybird got washed up in the tide. that seems to happene to a lot of bugs. indeed one day the tide was COVERED in flying ants and not so flying ants. i am talking billions of them. clouds of them. it was rather disgusting and more disturbing when we found out very few of them were dead. Not that the seagulls and other animals minded that at all.

seeing them flying from the mounds is fine. when they are a strange brown layer on the water that gets in your hair and mouth it is another matter entirely! not to mention ew
