A piece I did to cover some of my character Rob's backstory for the setting;
When younger, he decided to take a problem with a fox into his own hands, as young people do, to prove he was mature and responsible.
He might have been prepared for the Fox, but he was entirely unprepared to wander into a part of the woods that did not comform with the mundane world, or to encounter a strange and icy creature that 'kindly' offered to let him come home with it, being cold, tired and lost. Rob refused as politely as possible, much to the creatures amusement. It put a hand to his face and head, and left him with a 'gift'.
When he was found two days later (A span of time difficult to reconcile when he thought he was only gone an hour or so) parts of his hair had turned white, and one eye had turned a deep green like evergreens, and can no longer stand warmth. He is permanently cold, and his ice magic is so strong he's been known to freeze fresh pots of tea solid when his emotions run high. Only a number of charms to keep things cold keep him from completely collapsing of heat exhaustion or worse when the weather warms, and although most people can't see it if they do not posess 'The Sight', he's permanently marked with a glowing brand where the creature touched him, marking him as 'property' of the Fae Lord of the Winter Court.
