I remember seeing those! They were mice from toy capsules from Germany. The capsule was inside a chocolate egg called Kinder Suprise (english name).

OH KennyKitsune got it, it's from the Kinder Eggs! They used to have a whole bunch of those space mice.

They're chocolate eggs lined with a sort of coconut on the inside, surrounding a capsule that has a toy inside. You actually have to assemble the toy. They change the toys they produce every year. One year it was space mice, one year it was ecobunnies, it changes.

Kinder Toy or Kinder Egg Toy or Kinder Chocolate Toy should be good search terms to start with. If you go to their website, or do a search for people obsessed with collecting Kinder toys, you should be able to find lists of various generations and get a proper name for Ms. Mousey here.

It's illegal to sell them in America, because American parents are so STUPID AND PARANOID that they think their darling spawn can't differentiate plastic from food (actually, given fast food, that's not surprising), there's a law that says you can't have a non-food item inside a food item.

GLEE!!! I went up to Canada a while back and got as many as possible. I got some snow bunnies, a pelican-thing, a jigsaw puzzle and a cat with a kitten inside.

Well, you shouldn't give them to kids under two, but the same can be said for grocery bags...

It's not so much inside the food item as surrounded by it, but I guess that's not a big enough difference. The eggshell has empty space surrounding the toy capsule inside.

Ahh the snow bunnies are the eco bunnies I mentioned, they used to have commercials for them and they were super cute.

Those are the MegaMice, which was a slightly different series. They are totally cute! Each mouse repersents a different computer / Internet function.

Actually, Nestle tried that about 10 years ago with the Wonder Ball. Some stupid 4yo choked to death on the toy suprise. Nestle then quickly replaced the toy suprise with more candy and stickers.

The only way I got ahold of the Kinder Suprise eggs/toys was I worked for the German AirForce Exchange a few years ago. They were legal for sale *only* to the families of NATO soldiers who bought things in the store.
