General:

-Usually nocturnal
-They tend to avoid damp and rainy places, which choke their flames
-Their Lantern hats are not detachable, they are part of their skull.
-Their compound eyes rest in a single socket, covered by one jointed eyelid. Their larger eyes are the only ones with a pupil, the smaller eyes are used for sensing peripheral movement and cannot distinguish color or shape
-Glands along their spinal column secrete flammable gas which ignites to become the flames above their backs
-Their blood is hot liquid which, when combined with the air outside of them, becomes smoke. Blood vessels within their claws makes them super heated.
-Their saliva is as thick and flammable as lantern oil
-Their vocals vary from hissing and growling like a feline when upset to making Zebra cries when excited
-An average Lumi is about four feet in height
-They are fully capable of consuming and digesting foods; they are omnivorous
-Lumilux take pride in the charms that dangle from their lantern hats, which can vary in shape and color. If one were to have it severed or damaged, it would bring them great shame and sorrow. They would be treated as lesser than those with their charms still in tact or even pitied
-When a Lumi dies, it's body combusts, leaving an ashen pile of bones and metal as a corpse
-A female Lumi may lay two or three charcoal-black eggs. These eggs will burst into a small explosion upon hatching.
-A Lumi's childhood is considered to be the first 100 years of its life
-101-200 is considered adolescent
-201-300 is considered young adult
-301-500 is considered adult
-500+ is considered an elder

Subspecies:

Kitsune: These Lumi are known to cause luck or misfortune. They are able to ignite the tips of their tails like candle wicks. The more plentiful the tails, the more influential they are. It is extremely rare to find one with nine tails; most have an average of three. It is rumored that a Lumi with seven to nine tails has the power to curse humans into becoming Lumiluxi.

Vampirism: They feed off of soul energy that can be released from strong emotions, wandering spirits, and even death. Lumi can be born with Vampirism, or when two Vampires bite a regular Lumi. Either way, it takes two to create a new Vampire. So if a Lumi is bitten once, their state of being is unaffected, but usually they don't survive. Half breeds do exist, but they can only be born, not bitten.

Sprite: These much smaller Lumi have trouble keeping themselves on the ground. The heat within them combined with their light weight allows them to float for short periods of time. They are the result of when a Lumi is underdeveloped which is why they lack claws and their chests have yet to open.

Aquatic: These Lumiluxi are hardly ever caught on land despite being fully capable of breathing out of water. The holes along their neck act as gills. Their skin is covered in short oily fur. Some are able to walk on the water's surface, if talented enough.

Halo: These Lumiluxi hold great power which often cracks the metal parts of their bodies, creating rune-like patterns upon them. They are believed to be direct descendants of Ultorallen, the god of radiance. They live much longer than their counterparts; some reaching as old as one thousand years.

Ethereal: They harbor the ability to become transparent or even invisible, and may be able to slip through solid objects. They usually prefer to be alone, wandering through vacant areas and hiding from those who seek them. They are rarely known to be violent, but are often said to predict death.

Cold Fire: These Lumiluxi have flames as cool as ice. Instead of burning those who come too close, it freezes them. They have the ability to grow icicles on their body, either sharp offensive spikes, or flat, smooth hunks that act as armor. More talented holders of this gift are able to make it snow within a certain perimeter around them, or even whip up harsh blizzards. Usually, Cold Fire Lumis will be either talented in defensive (armor ice plates) or offensive (sharp ice spikes), but in rare cases, it is possible for them to be able to do both! They can alter them to a degree, turn them on and off and adjust the sizing of their spikes or perimeter of their armor!
