Just had a horrible scare. I went to feed my rats and looked in to the boys cage to see Julian flat out on his side, staring, his tail sorta' rigid, as dead as a dead rat can look. I thought 'There's something seriously wrong' as I just lost his brother a couple of days ago.
I tried running my fingers along the bars to make a noise, I called his name, opened the cage, he'd normally come running but he didn't even flinch, and then Tony, my hairless, just as I had closed the cage and was putting my hat on to go down and find a box, ran over to Julian, who rolled his fat ass over to start playing.
He's fine, he was just asleep. Like, dead-asleep.
Took him outside to get some air afterwards and the dogs came to say hello!
A side note. My dogs have been raised around rats, and while they still retain their hunting instincts, they do not see the rats as prey, and are very gentle with them. Even so I would never leave them unattended. Julian was perfectly safe when I took this!
