I've seen mention that this one is based off older ones, all with some boxer named Joe I think? What were these older anime?

rthe old anime/ manga is called ashita no joe. And is the story of Joe, a nobody who after going to juvenile prison , want to fight witht he powerfull and more skilled Tooru Rikishi.
The anime is long, but is very good if you are into boxing and drama!
