so yeah i'm really incredulous about the idea of drawing with a tablet and i remember why i always, always, always decide to use a mouse when i draw

my wrist is in AGONY from the like 20 minutes it took me to figure out how to draw this

NONE of these lines are clean and while the pen pressure is really cool, i feel like there's like

ok see when i use a mouse to draw, it's like i'm directly interacting with the screen. i have direct control. my hand and the mouse are basically just an extension of my desire

i feel so detached from what i'm doing

everything feels wrong and it's upsetting on an intimate level

I gave up and droped $600 on a chinese 20 inch tablet monitor thing ( can't afford a Wacom)

I know this isn't a solution for many people, but I found that I could not freehand draw with a tablet.

Now I can freehand draw POORLY with a tablet monitor.

Because I found that, with me, the tablet problem was coordinating whats in my hand with the screen.. so..
at least for me being able to see the lines when I drew helped a lot?

Well, I'll just say for me using the tablet (and looking at the screen) was much harder than using a tablet/screen.

I feel weird breaking lurker status, but I've seen you talk about this a number of times so I wanted to say:

1. You do amazing things with a mouse BUT

2. From personal experience, the awkwardness of a tablet, and even the wrist strain are probably mind games. Had the same happen when I started (though to a smaller degree). It's one of those things where obsessing about the problem magnifies the problem and keeps it alive. If you can relax and just allow yourself to feel terrible and awkward for a while it will probably melt away with time.

Also, sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but play around with brush setting with the tablet if you haven't already. There's a whole bunch there that means jack-shit with a mouse but is the difference between raw garbage and awesome when you have the pressure and quick, dynamic motion of a tablet.
