Following various events in the actual games I'm running for my friends set in the Indigo Surf universe, various trouble continues to befall the party!

One non-player character the party can depend on though is the Artificial Assistant Intelligence (or AAI) who belongs to the party leader and also acts as the main AI to look after the running of the player's ship. Assistant AI's are not fully sapient, but have well developed personalities and can grow over time to be an invaluable companion to their owner.

Captain Annie Chen purchased Bright Eyes to be her AAI and he's been steadfast at her side, or at least in her pocket and on her ship displays, ever since.

AAI's are often themed to various characters from stories, myth and so on. Bright Eyes was developed to have an appearance akin to the Black Rabbit of Inlé, the psychopomp (or grim reaper) entity from the old Earth story book, Watership Down.

That said, the Captain's hat was an addition from Annie, as she pictured him taking the helm when he took over auto-pilot and doing so in the style of the famous first famous human cartoon, Steamboat Willie, so Bright Eyes obliged with an appropriate avatar update.
