Chapter 1: Confessions and the Future
The dragon looked at his phone, checking the time. 11 past 10 at night, 11 minutes after Red had wanted to meet up. He shrugged, figuring she must be in traffic as he looked out from the hub of the guild. The lights from the city below melded together on the horizon, creating a rainbow view that, while maybe not natural like the stars, had its own beauty to enjoy. As he looked out over the city, his city, he heard a door open and then quietly close behind him. He turned, leaning against the cool metal railing as he sees Julie has arrived.
“Bit late, eh? Thought you had forgotten. Come here, this place is gorgeous at night isn’t it?”
However, something was wrong, and he felt his heart sink as her voice opened and said the most horrifying words a lover can hear.
“We need to talk.”
Her ruby red lips said, clenching tightly as she took a calming breath through her small nose.
“Is… Is everything okay? Did I leave the toilet seat up again? I’m sorry, I thought I took care of that… Was it my turn to take out the trash? I’ll go do it right now!” He ‘turns on’ his wings, powering them up as he gets ready for take off.
“NO!”
Red yelled at him, causing the dragon to flinch in surprise as she repeated, quieter.
“No… Stay, I need to… To tell you something important, and just shut up while I do it okay…?"
Rai replied with a nod and not a word more, and the crimson girl took one more deep breath to steady herself, and began to speak.
“I’m… I’m pregnant. I checked, and rechecked, and…”
Her eyes watered up, her face scrunching up into a ball of worry to mimic the heavy weight in her stomach. “I’m completely sure, and the only one I’ve had sex with lately is… Is you…”
She looked up at him in tears, smiling weakly.
“Congrats daddy…?”
Rai stared at her in surprise, slowly sitting down in shock to process this new information, his rear gently hitting concrete.
“I… Are you… You’re completely sure?”
He asks, looking up at her as she nods slowly.
“I... I don’t know what to say…”
He watches her face, the worry and fear for what the future holds, and he slowly stands up once again as he moves to her and wraps her in his arms.
“But… But I will be here for it… For you, for us... “
He places a hand on her stomach gently.
“For them… I promise, I don’t know what the future will hold but it will have to handle both of us…”
Julie’s eyes went wide, then slowly misted up as she began to sniffle, then sob openly against his white fur. Her concern burst open like a dam, she had been talking and thinking and worrying over this for days, trying to figure out what to do and say to the male, the fears of what he would say, what she would do if he had said he was leaving her. However, in that moment, nothing mattered except for his warm, soft fur and her own tears as he held her close and looked out over the city skyline.
