Part Two
It’s been a couple hours since I took off the night before from the convention center. The sun is getting up in the sky, and it’s about 7:30 in the morning. I drive along the highway and slowly the traffic gets more congested until I get stuck in the rush hour traffic trying to get into the city I just happen to pass through to get to the con. Luckily, I had gotten stuck after getting off my most important exit, which should lead me out of this ultra-stuffed city. The traffic slows to a crawl, and as the sun rises, I flick on the AC in the car. It takes a couple minutes before the air begins to cool off, and some of my early morning perspiration.
The traffic stops, and every once in a while, I gaze past the passenger seat to the body of the husky lying still on the back seat. Every fifteen minutes or so, it just wiggles a little bit, and it always catches me off guard, my imagination thinking it’ll spring up and try to hug me again with its plush fur covered paws. It’s a silly thought, but considering I had to fight it off when I met it, to me, it seems completely understandable. I enter a tunnel. The orange lights enter my windows and cast strange shadows on the floor and plastic parts of the interior. I look out at them as we all crawl along, and, above the purr of the engine, I swear I hear a winding noise coming from inside the car somewhere. Somewhere close.
I gaze about, my brow knit with confusion, and intrigue, trying to subconsciously pinpoint the source of the strange noise. I look around, continuing to hear the soft noise, until it stops for a while. I look back ahead and try to focus on getting out of the tunnel, when after a few moments, I hear it again. It sounds closer, and I focus more on the passenger seat and all the stuff on it, when I suddenly hear a soft voice.
“Hello? Can anyone hear me?”
It sounds fake, electronic, but also full of innocence. I’m taken aback by it, and I slowly reply.
“Y-yeah, I can hear you.”
I’m plastered to my seat, and a lone bead of sweat trickles down my forehead. I’m frozen with shock, and perhaps some fear. I look to where the voice came from: My bag. I hear the voice again, knowing it’s coming from Joseph’s head.
“Please, let me out of here. I can’t see. I’m scared…”
‘Scared?’ my mind says. ‘that doesn’t seem right… Should I let it out? He can’t do anything to me like that…’
“Okay,”
I pause
“I’ll let you out. Hold on.”
I reach over while traffic stands still and unzip the bag. I unbuckle my seatbelt and take the head out, then prop it up on the bag, so it faces me on the seat beside me.
“Thank you, Matt. I was frightened in the dark.”
His jaw opens and closes simply, showing what appear to be plastic teeth and a soft fleece tongue. I gasp softly. How does it know my name?
“How do you know my name?”
I hear a faint sound of a hard drive whirring, collecting data and formulating an answer.
“I heard some of your fur friends say your name while I was around. That’s how.”
The head has a bright and cheery tone to it, though it sounds strange coming out of a robots severed head. Then again, what wouldn’t?
“I… did see you on the fursuit floor a couple times.”
The head is silent for a moment. I hear some whirs and then it states
“I can’t detect my body. What happened to it?”
“It, it’s in the back seat.” My words come out with a twinge of remorse behind them.
I throw my hand up and point my thumb and a loose glance back to the body covered in the blanket.
The head wiggles a little, its eyes, though inexpressive beyond a look of happiness, somehow convey a feeling of sadness upon hearing my words.
“Why am I like this, Matt?”
My eyes dart around, flashing around the tunnel and the inside of the car, trying to drum up a response that doesn’t sound mean, or cruel.
“I had to get away.”
“I don’t understand…”
“You hugged me, but, then you didn’t let go when I said let go. I… got scared, and angry.”
“I’m sorry I did that to you. I don’t remember doing it, but I apologize. I hope I didn’t hurt you.”
It was odd that he didn’t remember me lopping his head off with my punch, but I didn’t want to remind him.
“N-no. You didn’t. But I accept your apology.”
“Thank you. I’m glad.”
Upon uttering these words, I reach out and place my hand on Josephs head lying on the seat beside me. His fur is soft, despite being fake, and I smile softly.
I believe what he says, about not remembering and not meaning to do what he did. It may seem foolish and naïve, but that’s the truth. I take my hand off his head and suddenly traffic begins to move again. I remember to fasten my seatbelt and soon, the traffic clears. As we get onto the road home, I begin to think about Joseph a bit and I look to the bag I put him on.
“Do, you want to see out?”
“Out where?”
“Outside.”
“Yes, I’d like that very much.”
“Okay.”
I move into the right lane after passing a semi truck and reach over, but stop.
“Uh, where’s a good place to lift you?”
“My muzzle is strong, just grab that.”
I grip his mouth firmly and set him up on the large dashboard and turn him to face me, so he can see out the side and back.
“What’s this?”
“What do you mean, this?”
“What we’re in. What is it?”
“Um,” I rub my neck, slightly put off by the fact that he didn’t know what a car was.
“it’s a car. People, they use them to go places.”
“Like conventions?” His voice sounds a bit cheery as he says it.
“Yeah, among other places.”
“Where else is there to go?”
My words slip away, as if sucked out of my mouth. The thought enters my head that he doesn’t know a thing about life outside of conventions.
“There’s a lot of places to go, and I’m going to try to teach you about them.”
“Okay.” His voice sounds eager, and I smile softly at him.
This was going to be interesting.

These seem to get better each time. :3 It's good to finally learn a little about Joseph, I just love his child like innocence. It almost makes me curious on how he would react to the more sensational looking things in life. :3
I'm also very curious about his creator, and why he was at that particular convention.. All in all, a very good addition to the series, and more then enough reasons to come back for the next part.
Cheers dude! :3
