The Feast of Fools, a day when all social norms are subverted, when people of all social classes and species can join together in the streets to dance, eat and drink until dawn. Nothing is sacred during this day. Kings, religions and nobles can be mocked without fear of punishment, and for just one day it really feels like the lowest members of society rule the world.
It's all an illusion of course, the dream of a bunch of fools that will vanish at sunrise, and then everything will be back as it was.
Shadi had no intention to take an active role in this madness, but her friends and the members of the local community managed to coax her into it. After all, she was one of the best oud players of the district, especially now that she had left her thieving career at her back and started to actively practice.
The area was a part of the slums that was reconstructed and was now inhabited by a thriving community of humans and other species living side by side, and everyone had been nothing but kind to her since she migrated in this new city. They gave her a job, shelter and trust, without asking anything in return, so refusing to play at the feast would had been terribly selfish of her.
The fear started to dissipate as her fingers kept running on the cords of her instrument, and her singing voice grew more and more confident. People were dancing all around her, cheering and laughing. She kept singing all sorts of funny gibberish until the sun went down, and she loved the feeling of being the craziest person among this bunch of fools. Finally, after quite a long time, Shadi felt happy.

Something tells me the grump there is a tax collector. Or some other civil servant who's just high enough up that he gets nothing out of the feast, and low enough down that it won't be much better for him tomorrow either.
So he's staring, and thinking something to the effect of "She had best report every. single. penny."

Whoa! So many details! Details! So bright and funny! A-a-a! I'm so impressed! HELP ME!!
Hhhh... Ok. Shadi is enjoying it. Great! And the happy atmosphere is clear here. Creepy old man is so... creepy) Very funny and warm artwork. No doubt that it was inspired by the "Hunchback of the Notre Dam" cartoon. It is funny, but I watched it just yesterday.

Come on, come all
here at the Feast of Fools
no boundaries only sweet bounties of this joyous time of year
For at the Feast of Fools, we all are kings and jesters
The Feast so grand no man nor beast shall starve
So many fools that you'd be mad not to join
Here we all, our song as one
Here at the Feast of Fools
here at the Feast of Fools
no boundaries only sweet bounties of this joyous time of year

Here at the Feast of Fools
~Once a year, we throw a party here in town
Once a year, we turn all Paris upside down
Every man's a king and every king's a clown
Once again it's Topsy Turvy Day
It's the day the devil in us gets released (Good is bad and best is worst and west is east)
It's the day we mock the prig and shock the priest (On the day we think the most of those with least)
Everything is topsy turvy
At the Feast of Fools~
