Allright, day one of Pollinator Week themed submissions!
So here we've got 2 new characters, Ingo and Jyri.
INCOMING CHARACTER LOREDUMP
Ingo is a non-specific red butterfly, and a complete hardass. I've wanted to make a male butterfly character that goes against what your first thought of a butterfly-anthro might be. He's built, he's strong, and he's the frontman for a punk/metal band called "Black Wings". In the buggo world that exists in my head, butterflies tend to be really upper-crust. They're beautiful, they're extravagant and often a bit elitist because they're so attractive.
Ingo runs counter to that.
He doesn't want to follow the stereotype and chooses to go dark n' dirty. It's an identity with mixed results, because while he wants to stand as a testament to choosing your own way in life? People tend to see him as more of a local oddity. A celebrity even, which he despises. Like "Oh, that's the local 'Dark and Broody Butterfly! ooooh how mysterious!" He abhors that kind of attention from people who completely miss the point. There's also those who think he doesn't belong in this kind of lifestyle, because he didn't grow up that way. He wasn't born into it, he just "decided he liked it and took it." which is equally depressing for him to hear. But he uses those feelings to fuel his music and just blast those emotions. And thankfully there are those that do connect with his message.
on the other side,
Jyri is a Syrphid Fly, which is a kind of fly that often has a similar color pattern to bees and pollinate/feed on nectar too. That similarity has caused Jyri a lot of frustration, because along with Butterflies, Bees are also quite desirable. Female bees especially, and have a reputation for being promiscuous. So Jyri has gotten a lot of unwanted advances from guys who apparently aren't observant enough to tell that they aren't one (you'd think the eyes and lack of antennae would give it away.) And anybody who does make the realization often either A; immediately comments that Jyri is too ugly to be a Bee, or B; they keep trying to get with Jyri anyway.
So Jyri at some point in time, ultimately chose to start going more masculine to avoid that attention. However, even MALE bees come with a bit of negative stereotyping. Male Bees outnumber Female Bees by a wide margin, kind of a holdover from hives with Queen Bees and worker drones. However, at this point in EVOLVED BUGGO WORLD, that's not as much of a thing anymore. So then many male bees choose to be gay or seek other species to shack up with. ....so they're seen as just as kinda promiscuous as their female counterparts.
this is endlessly aggravating for Jyri, because they can't seem to escape idiots confusing them for someone to bang with. Thus over time, they've become very non-binary/androgynous and really want to make it clear THEY'RE NOT INTERESTED. That built up anger is what led them to performing with Ingo in "Black Wings." Which gives them that outlet they need for their energy, as well as proudly displaying themselves as something like a billboard for "I DON'T WANT TO BE FUCKED WITH."
They also appreciate Ingo's counter-species-culture philosphy, and Ingo respects them as a person in their own right.
It's worth noting that these two are also both pretty asexual, because they just don't want to be seen that way. Ingo doesn't want to be seen as beautiful and desirable for visual aesthetic. Jyri has spent most of her life being confused for a species with a reputation for sex all over, and was never interested to begin with. So they have a healthy respect for one another as friends. Some people will question if they're in a relationship with eachother, to which they'll answer with "You mean are we FUCKING? No, we're not. But they've got my back and I've got theirs."
It's not like they're completely anti-sex/sex hating, they're just fed up with being sex objects to people.
So with all that said, they're moderately popular and gaining traction in the music scene. But they refuse to sell out to any real high end production labels, so they haven't hit any mainstream appeal. Which is fine by them. They agree that if they ever start endorsing shitty products and attending celebrity parties, then they've fucked up.
