Check out what I got! Just picked up these surveillance sets at Costco today!
Each kit has a 4K NVR with a 2TB hard drive, and six 5MP weatherfroof (IP66) cameras with infrared capabilities, as well as ambient light recording. I have one camera set up in my living room, which is pitch black right now, and the camera can see it like it's midday! And the resolution looks amazing! I can't wait to see how these bad boys can do outside!
I've been wanting a surveillance system for my house since before I even got the house, (and if you saw the city I live in, you'd understand why).
With 12 cameras at my disposal, I'll be able to cover every square foot of my property, as well as the back alley behind my house, and even have a camera inside my house if I wanted!
Oh yeah, and the NVRs can support 8 cameras each, so if I wanted to, I could add more cameras to have up to 16 cameras in total! (probably won't ever need that many though). And with the way I'm planning to set them up, I'll probably be able to store up to a month of continuous recordings on the systems. And of course the storage is expandable if I feel I need more hard drive space.
If you're wondering how much I spent on these systems, well, it wasn't cheap... They were on sale this week for $150 off each. But anyway, I spent a total of $1403.65 on these things.
I did cringe quite a bit at the aspect of spending that much, but I kinda need them, with how things are in my city, and in the whole state of California for that matter.
Also, the other system I was looking at would have wound up costing something upwards of $2500 and would have been at a lower resolution.
Anyway, just wanted to share that with you. Not to flaunt my money in anyone's face or anything, (I'm actually running out of it rather quickly ^^; ) I just really like technology, and have grown to like camera systems in my current profession, aaaand I'm a little paranoid about keeping my home safe. ^^

Well, my thought was to have two watching the alley (one in either direction), one by the back fence pointed at the house, one on the back of the house watching the yard, one looking down either side of the house, two on the front watching the front yard and road, and one over my front door, and possibly one in the living room, watching the front door. That would leave two cameras to cover any blind spots, possibly along the sides of my house, because of how it's shaped.
And of course, I also have the ability to add up to four additional cameras if I want more coverage, including the ability to get a PTZ camera! (though that one could be pretty expensive).
