Nope! It's felt made from sheep wall, same thing they use to cover their yurts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=674RZRDLg6U
I will say, you have been a solid source of documentaries to watch, and I do appreciate it. I always thought Mongolians didn't quite use covered caravan wagons, other than perhaps wooden roofed carts such as this.. But then with a spot of searching, I spotted Camels as well as covered carts, other than that, a neat use of suggesting what they would have been capable of making, either way, cheers~
Second link is broken.
They totally did, though. Felt is good for insulation, and I imagine it must be cheaper too since the steppe doesn't really have a whole lot of good wood available, while having plenty of animals.
And additionally, they are not Mongolian, you see, they're dragonfolk living in an original world and while I take inspiration from Mongolian culture, it's not the only culture I take inspiration from. We don't know if this caravan is from the twins' native region either, it can be from another place with a different culture and available resourches.

Odd, both work on my end, still.. Is google doing some region blocking?
Still, depends on the time of the steppe you are referring to, such as when silks started flowing into day to day culture from the empire growing, or before that. I would not be surprised if/that they did, though, as even the steppes need rain, and can get pretty cold, I just wasn't quite familiar enough with the culture to be certain of anything.
As for the fantasy bit, 'tis why I mentioned the real life culture's counterpart, before, rather than outright saying these folk are from a real life region. I find it interesting, intriguing, is all, and I want to learn more about the setting~
