Most don't know much about Gharion's origins before his time in the army, nor do they matter to most. What does matter is that once he was rescued from the bandit clutches along with other hostages, he was as determined as ever. Without looking back he took to fighting for the good of the people, and eventually after enough honorary initiative, and the untimely passing of general Selmor, he was put in the position of general.
After his rise in the position, the safety of citizens got significantly better, and he was often viewed as a perfect general, always putting his needs after the people's, being kindhearted and caring. But of course not all would view this as positive. A fair amount of people and army men found him too soft and coddling, and too careful in his actions. Thinking Gharion was taking defensive over agressive so much as to being too afraid to deal with threats directly, waiting as some pigs in a pen. Right hand general Safu also had this view, and it grew increasingly strong over the years...
