Aroma dragons are a rare and unusual species. Unlike most dragons, they cannot fly, but can climb extraordinarily well. In lieu of a harmful breath weapon like fire, ice, or lasers, they instead breathe out a calming, enthralling scent. This does not help them much at all if attacked without warning, but provides a remarkably effective hunting strategy that additionally can turn hostiles... less so.
Their short limbs make fast movement difficult, so instead an aroma dragon will lie near its prey, open its mouth, and exhale the potent gas. What its prey smells, exactly, is unknowable; it seems to vary person to person and dragon to dragon. However, the one constant is that it draws whoever inhales it to seek out stronger versions. Fortunately for the dragon, this happens to be right down their throat. They're a little like pitcher plants, except instead of a wide bowl of digestive fluids, it's tight dragon insides.
Vanille in particular is an oddity among oddities - she resides near (vitually at) the local Dragonslayer's Guild, where she helps teach newbies to ALWAYS be wary around dragons, even ones that don't seem threatening. Most of the more senior slayers (a very relative term; dragonslayers are not a long-lived profession) are friendly with her, especially when using her as a teaching aid, so in return she usually lets the enthralled recruits go. Usually. A dragon's gotta eat, and helping one do so is an occupational hazard of a dragonslayer.
