A little something I've been working on since last night. For a while I've been doing some merfolk worldbuilding and recently figured that adding a deep sea subspecies would be a neat idea. Mind you, this has nothing to do with this MerMay event, I didn't even know that was a thing until like a week ago.

So here's just a quick design for one variant of deep mer, I'd like to eventually make a few more inspired by other fish like octopus and stuff. This one is an eel/anglerfish mix. The spots along his body can light up at will too, and he has more of those glow lures on his chin and arms, though those aren't glowing at the moment. Tbh I've already figured out a bunch of specifics but can't be bothered to list them all here given that I will have to write a loresheet for them eventually. But not today.

I'm thinking it might have been better if I darkened the fin as well, blend it into the dark of the background more, but for this I just wanted all of him to be visible. I've been in a very aquatic mood recently, and have also started reading that massive book of Lovecraftian tales I got a while back. So eldritch horrors from the deep are my shit atm, and I wanted to draw something that stylistically could resemble a picture from that book.
