I imagine Fox like most vulpines has a highly acute sense of smell so would be vulnerable to that variety of olfactory assault and considering Wolf has thick fur and wears a leather jacket, only his boots might be more potent considering you never ever see him barefoot. Fox is about to lose consciousness I imagine, though maybe the smell will be of such intensity it actually induces a degree of lasting anosmia rendering him less vulnerable to such an attack in future.
With Wolf having an equally sensitive nose I will imagine Fox later attempting to get his revenge by ambushing Wolf with an attempt to jam one of his boots over his nose, though Wolf is rather more burly so that might end up with Fox overpowered again and being lick tickled into submission via Wolf's tongue to his feet.
