I sat down today with a pair of wire cutters, some sprue from the last boxed set I bought, some superglue (you'll need lots of this.) a few bits, a lighter, and a drink (water might be essential, since you will be playing with fire..) and I threw together a marine. Originally I was making an inquisitor simply because I wanted one, but I figured "Hey, I just made someone. Let's make more :D"
So yeah, if you'd like an extra 10-100 marines, keep reading, if not, don't sue me. Seriously. I = poor.
Okay, this won't be worded the best, so you'll have to bear with. If you can explain it to each other in better terms, please do.
Basically what you do is cut yourself some of the thinner sprue (the parts that hold the arms and weapons) into tiny 2mm x 1mm x 1mm rectangles. You need two of these to make the feet. Glue those in whatever way you want to any extra bases you have laying around. I have 5 or 6 from the various boxes I've gotten over the years. The 10-man boxes tend to have on average 3 extra. Then cut seven 2mm x 2mm x 1mm rectangles from the outer rim of the sprue. You know, the thicker part.
Anyways, when the 'feet' dry in place, put a dap of superglue directly behind them on the base, and on the top of the feet. One of the thicker peices goes directly behind the foot in a vertical position, and another goes on top of the foot. Not to completley cover it, because it shouldn't. It should be spread so that there is a little bit of the foot protruding, about a millimeter. Wait for it to dry, it'll take a few minutes because of the positioning of the stuff.
The next part you have to be careful with. Put a little bit of superglue onto one end of 2 of the remaining three parts. Light the glue with the lighter and fuse it into one of the shins you just made. Repeat with the other. The legs might look a little thin, and if you don't intend to make a cloak/trenchcoat/kilt then flesh it out with green stuff or sprue or whatever you want to. I leave that to you to figure out.
Anyways, you repeat that until you have the legs. Wait for it to dry, and then put the last remaining peice inbetween and superglue it in place. You can also use the lighter to make it less boxy, but then you run the risk of it all ingiting, which can be bad for you, it, and any carpeting that you might have.
The body was surprisingly easy to make (even though I burned the hell out of my finger..) You basically just take two peices of the thicker sprue (about 4 or 5mm in length) and superglue them together. You will notice this is quite a bit wider than your average marine, and your right. What you do now is melt both of the ends and flatten them with the metal part of the lighter. This is so you can attach some of those extra space marine arms you have laying around your bits box. Don't attach those just yet though. Glue the body to the legs and fuse it a little with the lighter. This is important, because it will be put under stress when your trying to glue the arms on.
Anyways, once that is done and cooled, you should then take the lighter to where the neck should be. Just melt it a little, and then glue an extra marine head in place. Melt the back of the helmet a little and fuse it onto the body, because otherwise it will break off. If your using a non helmeted head, you'll notice they have a strip of armour above the back of their necks. Use that.
Glue the arms on, as well as any kilts/trenchcoats/robes or whatever you feel like. Or don't. Your call.
Voila. You have a marine. Or a very tall guardsman with a marine head and arms.
