The “Super Mario Adventures” comic series that was first published back during the 90s was such a wonderful piece of nostalgic; a great blend of western art with loads of anime tropes blended together.
After the Nintendo Treehouse demonstration of “Super Mario Odyssey”, I was inspired to make a comic base of the demo; get ready for the Mario vs Hariet comic adaption!!
==========================
The start of the adventure!
Here’s a little Fan Fact: this single page is a complete abridged version of the old script I wrote for this comic. It was really long…about 15 pages…and no Hariet appearance yet…
Seeing how unnecessarily long most of the scenarios are, I had to do some major cutbacks and shorten it immensely.
If you’re wondering what the original script had to offer, well, you’ll be disappointed since I deleted it during my progression. BUT, just in case you really do want to know, to the best of my brain power abilities, I’ll share what I had made thus far.
Original Script…by memory:
It will start off with Mario and Cappy landing the Odyssey beyond the outskirts of town. Mario, with gusto, was ready for the challenge ahead, but the sudden breeze of chilly air made him shiver. He will acknowledge the unusual cold weather and icy rocks all over the place. Cappy will then point out that there’s a town nearby and the duo will make their way there.
Seeing the mess of ice shards and frozen Tostarena citizens, out heroic plumber first course of action was to go into the Crazy Cap so he can look apart of the town folk’s culture, much to Cappy’s dismay as he claims Mario was only doing it to play dress up.
After buying his cloths, Mario wonders why this places was frozen over and decided to do a bit of investigation… by playing on stage with music. (I was originally planning to have Shantae, from the Shantae series to make a cameo appearance in the crowd). After being rewarded with a Power Moon, Cappy will then realize that they didn’t get any leads about the disruption of the town. Over hearing them, a Tostarena, with Mexican accent, will explained that their peacefully town was corrupted with ice by a “senor monster” and his soon to be “senorita bride”. Knowing that it was Bowser, Mario rushed out of town.
Cappy will then notice that the large foot prints in the sand looks similar to Bowser, so they followed the prints leading to the Tostarena Ruins. Mario will come face to face with small yellow Goombas and easily defeat them with his hat. As Mario and Cappy make their way through the ruins a sudden Bullet Bill was fired at them. Mario, with a toss of his hat, possessed the flying explosive and joyfully zooms across the landscape. Unfortunately, Mario doesn’t have proper control of the Bullet Bill and was headed straight for a large boulder. Both him and Cappy will start panicking as they try to stir away (Mario will ask for an instruction’s book, a little reference to Hotel Mario), but they ended up colliding with the rock.
Mario and Cappy will be in a daze with smoke around them, but at least they found another Power Moon in the mist their troubles.
