For Her Bravery
That scene in the movie near the beginning where she sacrifices herself to save Twilight hurt me so much the first time I saw it, I couldn’t stand seeing my poor muffin hurt like that, but I was also so proud of her for doing something so selfless and brave!! She saved Twilight!
My good good friend AllyClaw and I were talking after the fact and she told me she liked to think that afterwards, she was rewarded by the princesses for being so brave! So that’s what I just HAD to draw!
Drawing this was hard work but also lots and lots of fun. I felt so happy and warm while making it, and every time I zoomed out to look at the whole thing, I couldn’t help but beam along with that cute sunny Pegasus. So proud and happy~!

LIke me too! I was jsut beaming every second I was drawing this piece and it felt so emotional just making it, which is not an experience I usually have with my art!
So often I make something I like and I'm excited to share it, but my god I was ECSTATIC wating for this one to go up back when I first scheduled it haha

Yes yes exactly!! She was very brave, that was a very deliberate act and you can see it right there.
but the way I see it, if Derpy hadn't taken the hit *briefly hugs Derpy plush* Dash and possibly even Twi would have been the ones to get hit instead.
even if it was just rainbow, they'd be down one of the party members for the whole quest. not to mention it'd be pretty dangerous turning to stone at that speed

I agree completely. I addition, Derpy served as an excellent distraction. Because of her party hat, the enemy thought they had gotten Twilight, so they stopped attacking. It took them a few seconds, which is an eternity at Rainbow Dash speeds, to realize their mistake. They had stopped attacking, thinking they had already won, and that gave the Main Six enough time to get away, which they only barely managed to do in the end anyway.

That part absolutely killed me though.
Cus I'd seen like the little preview of the part of the song and saw Derpy appear and we were all like AWWW DERPY <3 And with the cute little party hat horn! She's trying ta be a cute little princess~ So cute!
And then that actually be came a kind of cruel part of the plot, it wrenched my gut XD
