I'm saddened to note the passing of family dog Dot, shown here surprised that some idiot would shove a camera flash in her face (and before anyone asks, no, her name is not taken from 'Animaniacs')
Dot lived to the age of 15, but over the last several months she steadily lost weight, despite my best efforts to improve her diet. Last night her condition kicked into high gear until she was unable to walk by the time I got her to the vet. She was euthanized that morning to end her suffering. I thank her for being there for a long, mostly healthy, and hopefully happy life.
UPDATE: Here are a few past pics of Dot in her younger days:

... and a couple of surviving doggo Dash. As you can guess, he misses her too.

She looked like a sweet-tempered fuzzball. I'm not sure what her heritage was, but sharing anyone's life for fifteen years makes for a big chunk of your heart.
I've lost five dogs over the years -- the ones that were actually mine -- and a dozen or so family dogs. Every one broke my heart, so I know what you're feeling. Remember the good times.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Though it hurts like hell and you wish there was some other way, sometimes the last gift we can give our loved pet companions is an end to their pain.
We had to have Sophie, our 11 year old Sheltie girl, euthanised last weekend due to an aggressively-growing tumour, so I can understand what you're going through right now.

I remember when Tor passed too. They become so much a part of your life that their absence is profound. But I'm glad to hear she lived a full life and was loved, which is more than many get. I bet the two of them are already swapping stories about you.
