Why should your adventuring group settle for hiring a healer in town who you'll have to equip and protect, when you can just pick up a nillacoon in your equipment and make him cast spells on your behalf! That's what my friend Frank's hound archon (last seen here) has done, and you'd be wise to follow his example. It's certainly a lot more versatile than any wand!
