This picture actually means a lot to me, and something I've been meaning to do. First off whoever says pigeons are heartless city rats who are filthy needs to truly reconcider it.
About 5yrs back my sister's ex-boyfriend brought a baby pigeon to my house. They were hoping my mother could nurse him back to health since she knows a lot about birds. Sadly she couldn't do anything since she only knows about caring for tropical birds like parakeets or cockateils. Instead I said I'd try and nurse him back to health, keeping in mind he was a small naked bird and looks to be about maybe 2-3wks old.
I took over in caring for him and feeding him crushed cereal like cheeros and warm water into a syringe. I used the syringes my mother used for her medication as she's diabetic. I made double sure they were clean before using it of course. Time passed and he began to grow older and more active. My feeding times decreased from like 8times a day to the minimal 3-4 until he finally could eat normal seed.
Finally when he was old enough I decided to try and release him to the wild. I had to teach him myself how to fly with many attempts at toss the pigeon. I made sure I was careful though and he was in no danger when I did this. Finally I gave up and placed him on a branch and leave him and hope to see him fly into the wild. To me surpise though he kept coming back to us and tapping on our window to come in. Many and many attempts to shoo him away, but he kept coming back. So we decided to take him as a pet, and since then he's lived with us.
I call him Hedwig after Harry Potter and he still is with me today. He follows me around the house always right behind me like a mother duck and her baby <3
This was my first attempt at trying to outline by tablet instead of Illustrator. I am not too fond of it, but it was a fun experience, and I felt this image needed soft lines to be more "in the mood"
