Yeah, i haven't really decided what era she lives in, though i've drawn her with a smartphone before... but the 90s was when i was growing up so it feels the most poignant to me!

I dunno, where I live the cute goths ran around like this in the late 2000s too.Mind you thats also 10 years past, so I dunno what changed since. I think they might have added a few more steam punk influences.

I grew up in the wrong generation. xD I've always been behind in the "fads", as I just wear whatever I want.

I call that nonconformist. You just need to do that in style, and you might set a new fad that way :)
In my opinion corsets are both stylish and conveniently practical.
Just think how much longer it would take to get the same combination of stylish look and pleasant constriction if you wanted to weave bondage ropes.
Takes virtually forever - and you'd have to be an absolute pro with ropes and knots.
