This piece is more of a rant thing. I've done a couple rants before on this website but they were just strictly pointed at Overwatch and it's many many flaws. This is all about the "Modern" cartoon art style, well my own personal bandwagon. But I'm also riding the "Reboot" bandwagon that's all about the ThunderCats reboot Plunderca- I mean ThunderCats Roar. I have to say that first of all why this art style again, we've seen this art style in so many modern cartoon shows that it started to get bland, stale, and IT'S FUCKING RAW sort of vibe now. Second of all why are we rebooting another established IP? And why a reboot of a show that was "Manly"? This cartoon art style that each animator keeps plagiarizing off of the other can not fit with shows like ThunderCats or Teen Titans or something else like He-Man. This is just a lazy way for animators to make a cartoon now, by using this art style and targeting only those under the age of 10 or even 8 years old. I as a cartoonist, well not a full time cartoonist as I'm currently studying the arts and crafts of cartoon and animation, am really upset at the new era of cartoons, it's too lazy and too mundane, I think that's the word I'm looking for. I remember growing up, that all kinds of cartoons had different art styles, and they were all creative and unique from one another. Animators back then actually tried, and most of the time came out with great looking shows. Nowadays it's the same old shit with every show and I'm at that point were I just can't anymore. So that's my thoughts towards the modern day cartoon art style and I hope we get more animators in the future who actually try to make a new and creative art style instead of just steal an art style from someone else (Is staring heavily at Sanjay and Craig)

Yes, and it's...honestly not a very good looking reboot. A lot of fans of the ThunderCats really really hate it because of the art style mostly, but they also dumbed down the characters to entertain children and well this was an established IP so the fact that this happened is a crime against the original creator of ThunderCats
As animation gets more expensive, the art styles get cheaper. As to why people gravitate to them, I'm not sure. Maybe due to the popularization of minimalist art on the internet that any jackass can do. Friendship is Magic allowed an entire generation of untalented people to draw accurate fan art.
I often describe popular art styles today as "LOL SO RANDOM INTERNET ADULT SWIM CAT VIDEOS" or something similar. And if it's not that, then it's crap ass anime style.
My hope is that once crappy art becomes mainstream long enough, it'll therefore not be cool and then quality art will be the hipstery thing that takes off again. Or it'll just get worse and worse as effort continues to decrease in popularity.
