Most of us I'm sure have been taught to be productive in one way or another. To make the most of our time and pursue the meaningful over the meaningless. Betterment is something we are all capable of, each and every one of us. I just feel..like the message, the idea has grown far more intrusive in our lives. For some folks, the ideals of being productive doesn't end after school or work. They take it home with them. It weighs on them in their personal lives, on their thoughts and in their hearts.
Yes...I believe in betterment...but I also believe in people being better to themselves. I think we spend a lot of our time investing in work and professions. In making things work, and climbing social ladders for better money, better opportunities, and better appraisal..I'm not...I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that.
I'm not here to tell you that careers are bad, and society is evil. I'm not telling you that you have to choose between being expressive or making money. This isn't about any of that...it's about you. It's about the times you and me forget there is anything BUT that.
It's about staring at the countless life stories and papers of others around us with so much to say, and looking at ours and believing the paper is better left crumbled in the garbage! It's about...trying to give ourselves a chance to stare at the clouds again and not feel like we're doing something wrong for just being there. Like we're wasting time for just being here.
..I want us to get better...but I want us to be better to ourselves first.

this is very much like the last lesson I learned from my therapist. something that I admit I still struggle with. but I'm trying. I'm trying to allow myself to just be, to do the things that I'm passionate about. and not punish myself by taking that away from myself if I don't succeed at being "productive" in the traditional sense.
I've come to believe that no one can set themselves on the right path alone. Being better to yourself is only the first step, you need to consider others, be as willing to listen to their stories as to share your own.
Maybe I only think this because that idea of betterment purely through productivity never stuck in my mind, even for a moment. Maybe I only think this because my friends are other people who never latched onto the idea. Maybe I only think this because I have to, for my own sake.
Whatever the reason, humans need eachother just as much as they need themselves. It's just a matter of finding those few who need you and helping them.
Or, maybe I'm wrong, but I've always been one to follow through with my mistakes, so, I'll carry on either way.
