Because the mongoose has specialized acetylcholine receptors that make it impervious to venom, so they’re known for killing snakes. In all honestly back then I was expecting his mask to be a bunny or something, I was expecting another joke, but I got something so much better. After that I just knew I had to paint him as a mongoose, it was too good to pass up on. However there was some major stalling during this painting cause I could not friggin decide what colors to use. That's the issue of podcast characters with very vague descriptions, artistic freedom can sometimes be a curse. And that is also why next time I draw him he'll likely have some different colors while I just figure out what Taako looks like in my mind. Also, I know the ears are far too long for a mongoose, but I decided to make them longer and fancier looking cause elf.
