When came the morning, the group took back the road.
With Hank's new growth spurt, it was even easier to make even more distance, and eventually, as night fell...
"There!" exclaimed Flip. "That's the tree where Anansi lives!"
Exclamations of joy followed suit, then the still normal-sized grasshopper, bees and hornet went in an alcove in the tree, while their gigantic companion stayed outside.
"Anansi? You there?"
After a few seconds, someone came out from a darker part of the alcove.
"Flip?! Holy moley, I didn't expect to see you! How long it's been?!"
"Too long, old man," smiled Flip. "It's good to see you!"
"Same here! But who are these children?"
"Oh, they're friends. Maya, Willy, Sting, say hello to Anansi and, er..."
The grasshopper hesitated as he noticed that the three kids were trying to hide behind him, looking warily at Anansi.
Anansi the spider.
Flip remembered belatedly that the last and only time these three met a spider, it was Thekla, and to say it didn't go well was one hell of an understatement.
"Sorry about that, Anansi, it's just that they had... a bad experience with spiders."
Anansi chuckled.
"I understand. I myself can perfectly sustent on dew and honeysuckle, but I know other spiders don't so easily give up on that way. So I understand your fear, children. But rest assured, you have no harm to fear from me."
The three came out from behind Flip and said hello, but still looked a bit wary.
"Anansi, I'll be honest, this isn't just a polite visit. We need your help."
"My help?" repeated with surprise the old spider. "What kind of help a storyweaver could offer?"
"There's someone else with us, Hank, Sting's father. He's outside, go look."
Anansi, still surprised, left the alcove.
After a few seconds, they heard his flabbergasted voice.
"Well, that's a big hornet..."
The adult and the children chuckled.
"And a growing one, on top of that..."
They immediately stopped chuckling and rushed outside.
And saw that the spider was saying true.
Hank was indeed growing anew.
His mere feet were now visible to the insects, bigger than mountains.
Looking up, they could see nothing but a humongous mass of muscles, rising, swelling, piercing through the clouds.
And while they couldn't see the hornet's face, the low rumbles emanating from so high above made it clear he was enjoying it.
"AGAIN?!" yelped Flip.
"Again?!" repeated Anansi. "What do you mean, again?!"
"It's the third time in as many days!" answered Maya.
"What?!"
"What was in that honey?!" stammered Willy.
"What are you... Look, start from the beginning, all right? What honey?"
"Well, Dad and a bee were inspecting an old part of the bee hive when..." began Sting.
