My old cat used to do that, when she couldn't see or hear us for awhile she'd let out these heart rending yowls, I sometimes wonder because we got her from the RSPCA she had been abandoned and was always afraid of it happening again. But I don't know. She stopped as soon as she saw someone in the family.
