Glimpse the Past
Part 2.5 of 3
This is a transitionary piece that will lead into the third and final submission that will mark the one week run up to my first year anniversary here on FA. Today's focus is a vintage piece from my original manuscript.
Originally completed between 2001 and 2002, this chapter in my core project was what was, and will be, part of a series of dreams / flashbacks that the character, Ducky Saurral, experiences that remind him of why he decided to take on the role of leader of his country.
This in mind, it is a triffle bit darker than other samples of my primary projects that I have shared. However, it is moments like this that made the character of Ducky into what he is now. Kind of like the old saying of how you can always find a light even amidst a sea of darkness. In Ducky's case, he noticed the horrible treatment his kind had been receiving and decided to do something about it. The subsequent works, in which most of you have read parts of, are a result of his endeavors both in the past and throught the core project in which this particular chapter hails from.
As I owe you all greatly for helping me to improve my writing over the past year, I have elected to leave this work in its original integrity. No edits have been done to it in years and, for that reason, you should be able to notice how much written evolution has occured not only through the furthering of my education, but also the powerful insights you have all provided me. :)
That said, I hope you enjoy this particular sample of my very first, 200+ manuscript! *flutter jumps* Gaboo!

Well, I was wondering when it was supposed to get dark. At the beginning it kind of seemed like some of your other stories. Not bad or anything at all really. Then it was time for storytime and then wow. Those human thugs caught me completely off guard but they had my eyes glued firmly to the screen as I read on. You're right though, this story is quite dark compared to some of your other tales, though I did like reading it a whole lot. I didn't really see much difference in your writing style from then and now. It seemed to me as awesome as it's always been! Maybe I was engrossed in the plot or something but in either case, I would love to see more of this. After all, not every story can be a bright, happy adventure. I think that this one adds a little more variety to your portfolio Yosh. Thanks for sharing this one with us!
I'm very glad that you enjoyed reading over this snip-it from my core work. In writing it, I really wanted to begin immersing the reader as to why Ducky would be journeying with the humans that he is. I never quite cover it in the story that focusses around his son, Lucky, but Ducky's past is scattered with moments of violence and prejudice, like this one, that make him aspire to become the leader of his country so that he could put an end to the torment that his kind have been going through.
It would be a pleasure to share more of this work at some point. Though, it is quite lengthy. Perhaps, if you wouldn't think it too confusing, or odd, I could post a segment of the tale that focusses around one of Ducky's key moments of character evolution? I don't quite have the time to edit it, but it would be an honor to share it with great friends, like yourself, to see if you believe it has potential. :)

Ah, well I guess with an unpleasant beginning like that, I guess he'd be the right kind of person to step up and try to make the world for the haposaurs better as their leader. It's really too bad story time wasn't so fun... I wanted to find out how Filly got outta the lava pit too! 8D
It was a most unfortunate event that such cruelty had to take place during such a happy tiime. However, on the plus side, even nastiness like this didn't stop story time.
Now that Ducky is the Saurral, he has become quite versed in all the tales and, no doubt, has shared the story that was so rudely interrupted when he was a tyke. Perhaps, one day, he'll get around to sharing it with the rest of us? :)
