"Detective" Dio first assignment was in Gotham during the height of it's crime spree. He specialized in missing persons cases, as well as homicide cases.
During his first assignment after locating in Gotham, and with leads from his street smart friend, Calo, the two head to a warehouse after following a trail of kidnapped people that ends up with them found dead. During the investigation, they found the missing people turned into toy-like puppets. Finding a few hostages alive, Dio is attacked by the culprit; a psychotically, unhinged, girl in the guise as a harlequin, attacks him while Calo escapes with the survivors.
Nearly being smashed by a sledgehammer and gutted by a chainsaw, he manage to apprehend the clown girl and placed her in a psychiatric ward. 2 months later, he visits the clown girl just to tell her she reminded him of someone familiar. 4 months later, she breaks out of the ward and stalks the detective that apprehended her. Numerous times she has set up many ways to get back at him; ambush with a turnpike, hitting him with an semi, setting up car bombs, sledgehammer, hit-and-run with a motorcycle, etc. Each time, the detective either got to safety, out of the way, and came to the point where he apprehend her again and send her back to the ward. This time with better security. 5 weeks later, Dio is assigned to Captain Purgy's department in the city over. Before he moved to his new relocated area, he goes to the Arkham Asylum that he sent her to. He tells her that he won't be in Gotham City. This was in hopes that if she breaks out again, she won't be causing damage to someone else thinking he was still there.
6 months later, Dio is works alongside Purgy's police force. One day, he hears a knock on his door. He opens to see the harlequin girl again. He is cautious and extremely unsure of the situation. She tells him that she has been released due to "good behavior" and he was assigned as her parole officer. Him being a "parole officer" made no sense to him. "I'm a detective. I'm not that kind of cop." The harlequin follows the detective on his cases claiming "we're partners" to his dismay. And, so, a new chapter in his story opens...
