I'm going back through my prompts and doing a quick edit so I can place them in the website and came across this story. I wrote it (that sounds so strange because like most of my stories I have no idea where it came from) back in 2010. It so moved me in the reading that I thought I would post it again for those who might have missed it the first time around.
Yeah... I cried; though being at work I was careful in the eye rubbing. Lots of dust in the air don't cha know.

A potent tale that had me sniffing at the end. Well done. Not all endings need be happy ones. Life is rather stingy with those, I've found. And stories that follow life in that way can be just as satisfying as any 'happily ever after.'
Though I do try to ration myself on them.
*hugs*

This was another very well done tale Vixyy, you certainly have a passion for stories based around aviation and a characters that one can easily get behind.
After reading the opening paragraph's I knew there was a real possibility that Marshal wasn't going to make it and still there was the desire to see him and Clarence both pull through.
The duel itself was incredibly well written, with a nice build up and some very palpable tension. I appreciate all of the small details, such as pointing out that a carburetor doesn't hold up well under the pressure of negative G dives.
The ending, certainly among your saddest (this, coming from one who likes bittersweet endings) but I think we can agree it was the only one that can do a story such as this justice and I couldn't see it ending any other way.
Indeed, fly free my friend...
