I've seen large snappers literally bite a broomstick in half!

Yes Turtles (not the mutant ninja kind) seem relatively hostile when you're trying to help them. A coworkers partner is in the police and he parked his car across the road and turned on the top lights to stop traffic while he helped a turtle across the road. In the end he picked it up and moved it off the road and it did the hissy and try to bitey routine.

I suppose they're cranky after all that turtle soup that was made in days gone past.
