FA is dying, but Twitter lives to take it's place!
Just a quick reminder as I continue work.

Twitter is good for instant gratification and finding art somewhat easily enough but as a gallery system and finding older works it's not too great. The average lifespan of a tweet is a measured in hours, not days. There's a lot of pros and cons to it (not knocking it, I'm a pretty heavy Twitter user, too!).
I will never abandon FA. The site may lack some stuff but it's still the best place to post art and archive it in my opinion. DA is full of children, Twitter is good for fast communication and fast things in general, but it's terrible as a gallery, not to mention I'm subject to seeing someone's personal life updates and political views, which sometimes I really don't want to see.
It's also easier to end up exposing yourself on Twitter, your life, even accidentally, which is something as I also avoid as someone who's very private about her life.
I just wish/hope FA would get a functional blocking system and blacklisting so it would be easier for people to just filter content they don't want to to see.

The gallery system is great now. My FA will never be deactivated, so even when I become inactive in da future, i'll be here.
Heh, "Da is full of children". Might explain why it is the only place so far, out of all my online accounts and presence, it's the one where someone was like, "ew, a nigger" on of my of commission/character design posts.
I've had my twitter technically since 2009, but only started using it actively a month or so ago. So in learning it, I do enjoy the fast/ instant pace so far. I don't think I'll ever use it as a gallery gallery (as I have my own site, and fa/da for that). The "moments" seem useful: But it's weird I rarely see anyone else using them(!?).
My long standing policy, has been to never share/interact online things I wouldn't say in person. And it helps to not be a natural sharer. Only sharing if someone asks a question. Although my new initiative is to share unsolicitedly, but that's very controlled. Actually, the only thing I actively "expose" on twitter is that I'm a black american (it wasn't a secret before, just part of the "share more of me" tactic): and...it's actually made me lose one past long time client and some twitter followers I think.
I'm with you there on being a private person! :) Unfortunately, I've contemplated my work just don't have that..."umph" needed to gain a larger audience without *ugh* being more "talkative". Or it's the "robot" thing: (that's in a diff post and Thwic video).

Yeah I agree with ya there. I don't like the idea that I may essentially be forced to move to Twitter as a lot of the artist I like are making their way over there. I mean at least on here I don't HAVE to pay attention to the journals unless they seem important. Twitter to me is like facebook, snap chat, skype, discord, etc etc. I go on there because I feel like I have to, but I really don't like having them all that much (just another thing I have to keep up with), not a social person and I just find most people aggravating nowadays.
I just wanna see nice arts, I don't want to know or care about their breakfast.
I just wanna see nice arts, I don't want to know or care about their breakfast.
If only most people shared that last sentiment.
But noooo, they need to be up in folk business to try and ...*gag* "connect". Alas, gotta do what I gotta do
But the journal was just being a dramatic bitch. True, but dramatic: [copy and pasted:] My FA inactivity is in the far future, if/when the tattoo or Benefit Program becomes substantial. Between comics and tattooing + the impending world travel, and my future doberman(s), It's inevitable commissions would be closed, so my activities would die here.
But that's future future. So it's a very slow death at this time.
So I'll still certainly post here as always, but twitter will be posted to first now (for tactical purposes touched on in the last journal). And plus, the "furry community thank you" project I want to do and have yet to announce, is still in the future, and that'll certainly be shared here :)
So you'll still see me hustlin' in these parts :)

As I told another, I wish more folk were like this: Cool with just seeing the art. But alas...
Though the twitter change is just a tactic for me, I try to just keep it about my creations and business/industry (thoughts about it, my process, etc.). I used it so little / rarely before, I basically have to learn how things work there, so some things may slip (like I just realized the followers could see one's "likes" in their feed).
The journal was being dramatic, but true for the future future. I'll still be hustling around here, just twitter will see it first now :)

I think the ideal compromise would be for twitter to let you set up 'channels' on your account, and let your follows selectively watch only certain channels. IE: Only show me the art, or only the SFW art, etc. That's not going to happen though, since their entire business model is based on algorithmic engagement to serve more advertisements, so the more unwanted tweets users have to sort through, the more ads they'll be exposed to.
Easier? Not sure. It's just a business tactic for me. Just trying new angles out, to fix an issue.
FA is still on my list of active hubs. Just no longer the first/second place I'll post to. The journal was true, but dramatic. The true inactivity won't be for some time. At least it won't countdown till I start/finish a furry dedication project I'll be announcing soon :)

Oh, I ain't goin anywhere soon soon. The post is just being dramatic, although it's true for the future future. But THAT announcement won't come till after I start or finish this project I wanna do in dedication for the furry community.
So all will still see me hustling on here: twitter will just get the news first (besides Benefit Supporters) :)

Since this is drawing attention. FA is losing it's sparkle and many choose to ignore that or make up excuses. I have been seeing many journals by artists saying FA is going inactive member wise. People no longer socialize, comment, or be active. I seen it on my own page as well but I wont leave just cause social media sites in my opinion... are horrible for art. They are very customer unfriendly and the political shit is just absurd. Even if artists move away from the sites I roam... I still will not follow. I wish you luck with your tattoo shop.
Hahah, so sorry, I knew the wording was too...bold(?)...no, dramatic. But still true. My FA inactivity is in the far future, if/when the tattoo or Benefit Program becomes substantial. Where do people always get this idea that "FA is dying"? Been hearing it for the last 10 years and yet here we are.
If anything I think Twitter will die off sooner than FA will. Remember all the hype around those websites that claimed to "kill FA once and for all" - SoFurry, Weasyl, FurryNetwork - where are they now? Barely breathing. Slow and unusable. Pretty much dead. Most business is still being done through FA. Twitter is in no way better for it. I personally haven't purchased a single commission from Twitter. All of them came either from FA or DeviantArt.
I don't see why you have to choose one platform over another and claim that one of them is "dying" when clearly a smart decision would be to use them both.

Sorry, I don't really keep my ear to the ground here very much. I know it's drama filled, but I'm not exactly in the furry community, so I just stay ladidadding in my own business :)
I was only referring to my own fa page: this journal was just being a dramatic ho. But still true for the future future. It's inevitable my future will not be these kinds of commissions, and so my activity will die here as my time is occupied by comics, painting, tattooing, world travel, and my doberman(s).

For as long as I offer commissions, I'll be around :)
I'm everywhere, and I don't have an assistant, so choosing a primary is imperative. DA was never real hitter for me. FA has been my primary/secondary since 2010 or so. The business is so appreciated, I want to do a dedication to the community in general (more info later). But, as often as I post here since that time, despite the business somehow sustaining me thus far, my traction is not nearly where I need it to be. It's an anomaly to me.
My work has far improved, my business is constantly upgrading, my biggest flaw is being late on certain services still, but I stay handling that professionally (frequent updates, closing orders till I finish my plate, and free art to make up for it): yet I've failed somewhere or...something. Despite the previous mention, despite the past 9 years of constant hustle, it feels as if orders are SLOWER. And I feel I'm deeply underground (both a success and a failure). Me making twitter my primary is me trying something new to find the 'why' and how to fix it. I'm 75% on knowing the 'why''s though.
There are other thoughts and considerations, but I already made this reply too damn long :) Sorry for the long read!
Point is: The journal was just dramatic, cause it's a far future truth. The countdown won't start till after I start or finish the furry dedication I wanna do :) And twitter is my new primary (after benefit supporters). But even when I become inactive here, the account will live as long as the site itself :).
Thank you for your time!

I get where you're coming from, though. You're a business person, and you need to be where the flow of traffic is, and where you can maximize exposure.
I mean, I'm here on an old school gallery site because it's not as constantly active, overloaded with information, and addictive as the current generation of sharing-based social media is (but being active enough to see SOME action. I love Weasyl's format but it's kind of dull there), but that's what I need, not what you need.

Truth. Just trying out something different in an attempt to earn/gain traction I need :) Thanks for showing understanding!

Im seeing alot of talks about the 'Social' aspect, you don't need to go neck deep and sit here and talk about every little thing going on in your life. Breakfast, you just woke up, how many miles you walked, hows your grandma, or other shit like politics and Blahblahblah.
In truth, anybody trying to socialize only cares that your alive, happy with what your doing, and may just want to connect on interests. You like Star Wars, MLP, Steven universe, you like Takoyaki, Aztec Culture, do you believe in aliens? Etc etc etc. People like to conversation sometimes and make the artist feel like a person, and not just a robot as you've called yourself. (Or others have called you.) Seeing eachother as friends/friendly people can make this a more fun and active place, and sometimes even help with artistic inspiration.
If you'r simply not into all of this and just prefer to remain unattached and Professional, nobody can stop you from being that way.
But don't try to force it out to appeal to people. Socialize and stuff if you want to and have something to say/add.

Haha, Oh, no, I ain't goin THAT far! It's just a manner of...letting a few things slide out.
"Seeing each other as friends/friendly people can make this a more fun and active place, and sometimes even help with artistic inspiration. " That's....it's hard to explain how that never worked with me exactly. I don't want to say I'm..."unfriendly", as that's not accurate. It ties into it just being one of the many things that may work for MOST people/ my peers, but not for me in the sense I think you mean. Such as, I don't see anyone online as...well, that's shared more in my Thwic 01 video on youtube :)
Heh, of course no one can stop me from being who I am. I just analyze and try to make vast considerations before initiating decisions and making a compromise. Like with the "appeal to people": I'm exhausted from the leash I keep on myself, so I definitely don't have the energy to put out a totally fake persona to try and be the kinda artist most folk seem drawn to.
The thought that my work isn't enough to bring in traction is...irksome. But it is what it is. I figure something has got to change, if I want change. My work evolves and improves as it should, and I don't plan to force it to change to appease strangers. So other things must be reviewed and altered. All while not sacrificing who I am.
So basically the idea behind my new initiative ,(shared in prev journal), is to appeal # socializing from the perspective of a dualistic nihilist lone wolf. Or I should say, just sharing certain pertaining thoughts out loud: topics concerning my characters, designs, business, the industry, and some moments in the journey to my career goals. And me being black american, bigender, ace, woman (plus those philosophical mind sets) are intertwined in those topics. A business tactic sure, but I also love the idea of putting videos and such out there on topics or thoughts I rarely/never seen from others.
Ugh, sorry for the long reply. My path to this conclusion of making twitter my priority hub, and Fa my 3rd or 4th, is...layered :)

If I may make a suggestion...
A great way for artists on twitter to get more traction is to hold Follow/Retweet raffles every now and then. Some do it when they reach a milestone number of followers (ex. 500/1000/etc) with the raffle ending on a decided date or when they're nearing a milestone which would end the raffle when that number of followers is reached.
When advertising the raffle, it's also helpful to attach images that did really well with RTs/likes in the past to grab people's attention again.
Anyway, gave you a follow over there too. ^^

Thank you for the suggestion! I had forgotten about raffles. Perhaps I'll do it with the next 100 for fydbac twitter, since the 600 was met just today ;)
I appreciate the follow!
I get useful suggestions so rarely, that I feel a need to show my thanks in some way: so if interested, please feel free to dm my tweeter, and I'll send you a promo code to use in a art commission on fydbac.com :)
