my game groups have a tendency for this too.
custom campaign: arbiter familiar, wyrmling black dragon, wyrmling green dragon
curse of strahd: pseudodragon familiar, dead npc's imp familiar, and the druid likes turning into a squirrel
tomb of annihilation: so far just another pseudodragon familiar, a deinonychus animal companion, and the party are fans of a racing hadrosaur named Banana Candy.
