There was an Eight Melodies in Mother, as well as another Eight Melodies in EarthBound (Mother 2)... and Smiles and Tears is a beautiful extension to the Eight Melodies found in EarthBound...
Even though, like you said, you've forgotten some places since you haven't played the game in a while... you've still done a wonderful job with this beautiful piece...

Yeah I know about MOTHER's final boss requiring the song to be sung in full, much like Paula needing to pray for several turns. My main exposure to the song was from the sound stone whenever you opened one of the Sanctuaries. I never liked that eerie sound from EarthBound, but I will say that Itoi did a good job in selecting his composer
