You'd be using it without permission from the artist, which is extremely bad, especially if you didn't buy it in the first place. Adopts are called adopts for a reason, you buy the character from the artist so that you can rightfully and fairly own them

That'd be art theft which is very frowned upon. Artists and other folks in the community don't wanna work with art thieves.

I don't rp or buy furry commissions, so its just a thought experiment to me, not meant to be hostile to you. Do people really spend money on the "right" to use a character out of fear of being shamed by the furry police (you, akeru, rakashama, mythrilkitty, and others)? If someone liked this design couldn't they just make their own version for free that's slightly different? I must say this all seems a bit silly to me.

Well good for you on saving your money for things that aren't commissions. We aren't the 'furry police,' but like Akeru and Rakashama pretty much said, taking a design without permission is heavily frowned upon and can be considered art theft, or just theft in general.
If someone was inspired by this design then ok? As long as they dont copy my creation detail for detail, I don't own the color palette, I don't own whatever the fuck this monster is, but I damn well own the concept/design I created here and if someone were to steal and use my creation without purchase I'd be pretty livid; so, even the fact that you mentioned it implied to me that you intended to do so or condone such actions.

A little tip for your experiment: don't go asking artists who are unfamiliar with you because you're honestly coming off as condescending and suspicious. Let people spend their money on what they'd like to spend it on, it's quite frankly none of your damn business.

Yes people spend money on the RIGHT to use a character, if they like it and want it, then they buy it, thats the point of adopts like I said. I dont see the point in even arguing in something that you couldnt even understand in the first place, especially when the artist herself straight up told you in the most simplest way possible, yet you still dont get it somehow. Art is a business, adopts are apart of that business, stealing the exact design goes against said business. How about you just chill and go on doing something else instead of putting your 2 cents into this nonsense
