I picked up this Speed Racer knockoff toy at a street fair yesterday, but something seems to be subtly wrong with it.

Can you sharp-eyed viewers pick out what's wrong here?

It's surpose to be The Shooting Star (Racer-X's Car.) But the bodytype is that of the Mach-5.
I've watched enough of the cartoons.. Trust me i know what the Shooting Star looks like and that's not it.

Let me guess..Made in Mexico?

Actually, considering the number of knockoffs I see at the local Mexican supermarket, that's not a bad guess at all.

However, this one hails from The Glorious Peoples' Knock Off Factory #73 B, Downtown China.

Actually, it IS the Mach 5, done in Racer X's colors. Doesn't look bad, really... :)

Whats funny is that the Trunk Monkey ads were started here in Oregon, from one of our dealers. took off like a viral video. now everyone online knows about it.

I have to agree - it looks sort of like a bastard hybrid of the Mach 5 and the Racer X car. Was it from that disgusting bit of offal that advertised itself as a 'movie?'

Naw, it's a knockoff. Obviously, someone in China didn't want to go to the trouble of getting molds for Racer X's car, so they molded the Mach 5 in yellow and painted it up for Racer X.

The "Mach 5" was also white in color. Well, you could say that they took artistic license in hybriding it. Though completely wrong.

Are you sure they didn't use lead paint? Those white circles could easily be lead-based.

You'd love Mile High Flea Market! Almost all of the Transformers toys I have I can get a cheapass knockof of, part of me really wants to get one of each to have sitting beside the real ones but it's also not good to buy those things which support the knockoff industry.
